Malcolm Butler Mega Thread

There’s a big yahoo headline with a quote from Butler “they gave up on me.”

I didn’t click on the article.

I hate today.

I'm pretty sure we should make sure he's fired tomorrow. What a loser.
You need to save that **** for someone else because Belichick winning is more of product of Tom Brady being the best player in the league for the better part of the last 2 decades than it is him. The fact is Belichick routinely gets out coached in Super Bowls and Brady has to pull out a game winning drive for us to win. We label Brady willing us to success in the second half halftime adjustments by Belichick. It is complete garbage if you take Brady off this team you have what you had in 2008 a decently coached team that will be a first round playoff team at best.

I am the supreme "In BB we Trust guy" but this Butler thing just makes no sense and is really disturbing - I can possibly see Rowe playing more but Bademosi and Richards comes in over him as well?

Possible. Not sure why they would say it instead of just giving he generic you gotta ask the coach answer that others are giving. But definitely possible..

I looked through some of the third/fourth down conversions and in the end the front 7 were the biggest issue in this game. That is how close we were to winning the game:

Exactly the kind of play that Hightower or Ninkovich might have pulled off.

I am sure there are more out there because I vividly remember Harrison being close to Foles 1-2 times as well. Point being that coaching was definitely no good but the lack of talent already limited strongly what they were able to do up front. There will be a time in a week or so when things calm down to talk about the fatal flaw of this years roster which was apparent from the very first game against KC.

Like I said before. For now due to lack of substantial information I will give BB the benefit of the doubt with the entire situation. Lets see if something comes out..

Question on the first picture, was DMac responsible for Ertz or was he doubling the wr in the middle?

I hate today too.

His quote is interesting.

As a player? As a person?

I wish I knew what it meant.

What I do know what it means his time as a Patriot is over.

We won’t find out from Belichick or Patricia but Butler will definitely say something.

We might not likely get the truth ever. One of the biggest goofs in super bowl history

I am a IBWT guy as well. I really don't get it. I can't fathom the whole thing.

Or Rob Gronkowski, Matt Light, Patrick Chung, Jimmy Garrapolo.

The whining in this forum is absolutely brutal.
Pat Chung the player who ran out of town similar to Butler just a few years ago?

Nobody held a clipboard for us like Jimmy Garoppolo - what amazing things he did for our franchise.

Gronkowski, well seeing as he had 12 picks in 2010 I’m glad he was able to get one player in the second round who was good.

The fact you have to go back almost 20 years for Matt Light speaks volumes to his success in the draft.

It’s not whining it is disappointment that one mans areogance cost a group of players and its entire fan base a chance at being the best team in the league.

Me too. I am total and complete BB apologist.

He has earned my complete trust and support. Last night does not change that.

However that does not mean I will blindly agree with everything he does.

If it is as he says which not playing Malcolm was a "football decision" when he has played 98% of the snaps on D over 18 games and not play your #2 man cover guy in the Super Bowl...well...that is overthinking it.

I do wonder what "football decision" means. He said it was not diciplinary

Furthermore, with the D getting torched and missing on open field tackles, and we know Malcolm is an excellent open field tackler that is also bad in-game personnel management.

I am convinced there is more to this.

it ONLY makes sense if there is a significant offense which I doubt. He certainly was not in trouble with the law, we would know about that.. It will be interesting to hear.

Do you think we will ever find out though? Idk. It was a last minute decision.

Key quote: “No, that wasn’t the plan,” Rowe said when I asked him at the postgame press conference. “It wasn’t official until kickoff.”

If true, thats the stupidest decision. Imagine the DB crew ready to go and one of your key guys gets told to sit out for the biggest game. You dont drop a bombshell like that on your players right before the game.

I actually think that Belichick should be on thin ice if the reason for Butler's benching is lame.

So nobody wants to hold Malcolm Butler accountable for his own actions?

I really wish we knew what the hell he did but I have to assume it was something. I'm just baffled otherwise.

BB deserves his criticism unless/until we really know what Butler did and that is the only question that matters right now.

I kind of respect that BB made whatever decision he felt was right and will stick by it without throwing the player under the bus but god is it frustrating. And without knowing why makes it impossible to defend.

Which is why someone has to drill belichick and ask him why he was benched? Probably might never get a straight answer from him.
