I'm not surprised by 09, 10, (we made it in 11) and 13. Those teams had a ton of holes as did the 2011 squad. The 2012 squad is what surprises me and one of the reasons I can't stand Talib.

Pats were rolling in 2010. They should have won it all that year.

But I am not complaining!

It will be important for Pats to disguise their linebackers.. We may get beat on some slants and digs on RPOs but I want Foles to see a bunch of different looks. Turn it to a guessing game, but play conservative with our DBs. Also I think it’s important for DEs to play the passing lanes when they are in shotgun!

To me, when I have looked back at that game, the thing that stands out to me was that there were numerous times, in the teens, where Brady had a play, and he was hit while in the throwing motion sending the ball off target. The sacks weren't the game, in fact, this offense is the best in history at converting first downs after early down sacks or penalties put them in a hole (see 3rd and 18 to amendola last Sunday) and in most cases 3rd down sacks we allow are coverage sacks and Brady chooses to take it rather than throw into danger.
In the secondary in that SB we had a 30 point game, and if Brady had a split second longer to throw without being shoved during the pass, we would have romped.

I recall reading a story echoing the exact same thing you noted. The story said that Patriots receivers were getting wide open all game, but Brady didn't have that extra half second he was used to getting throughout the year. The Giants sold out on their pass rush and they won the battle over the Patriots offensive line. That's why the sprained foot was critical. If Brady was able to move around the pocket, he would have bought himself the time to hit the wide open receivers. Either the Patriots would have forced the Giants to dial back the pass rush, or they would have blown them out with a barrage of TD passes.
If you really want to bang your head against the wall, take another look at the 3rd down bomb to Moss down the left sideline. The two Giants DBs flubbed the coverage and Moss was within inches of the game-winning 80+ yard TD. Oh, soooooo close!!!

It sure would be nice to win the turnover battle for a change. Patriots are 0-3-1 in their last 4 Super Bowls in that category (and 1-3-2 in the last 6).

I'll say the exact same thing about SB52 that I said about every NE Super Bowl since 38: I don't see any way the NFC wins the game if the Patriots win the turnover battle. NE is good enough to overcome a slight deficit in that department (as SB's 49 and 51 proved) but their opponents are not.

Do you think it's fair to say this year's team is the weakest Patriots Super Bowl roster overall in the BB era?

Nah. This team is way better than 2001 and 2011. We are better on offense than 2004 but obviously no where close on D. Last year team was somewhat comparable. Regardless, it doesn't matter. We have been the best team just about all year. It is what it is. They don't have to compete vs old Pats teams.

2011 team was weaker on the offense (particularly with Gronkowski basically serving as a decoy near the sideline and Ochocinco and Branch on their last legs lined up as outside WRs) and the defense... IMHO was even less athletic than this year`s version. Warren, Ellis, Love, Deaderick, Cunningham, Guyton, Koutovides... and explosive secondary with the likes of Molden, Moore, Nate Jones and Sergio Brown.

I think thats ultimately what the patriots will do. They always like to play with 3 safeties, leaving Chung in the box as a hybrid safety/linebacker.

Reading about these RPO's it seems that simply the best way to combat them is to play tight man coverage. match up man to man and let the front 4 get after the QB. also to change coverages.

This is where Foles vs. Wentz is a big difference/patriots advantage. Obviously people will want to point to the Jags game. but the key difference there is that Bortles was a running threat. with a running QB you can't just play straight man coverage because if everyones back is turned you leave the lane open for QB runs. SO you have to play more zone coverage and keep everything in front of you.

Foles is strictly a pocket passer. So I expect them to play more man coverage, send the house at him and try and force him to make quick decisions/make perfect throws to guys in coverage.

I think our Secondary has the horses to matchup man to man on the eagles pass catchers.

I would put butler on smith. I'm starting to warm to the idea of Rowe with safety help on Jeffrey and gilmore on agohlor. They put rowe on Julio Jones last year and he is a much better receiver.

If I remember, when the patriots played the bears in 2014 they put brandon browner with help on him.
