Saw what Troy Brown said last week following the Jags win, how it was the worst week of practice he's seen IN HIS LIFE. Sounds like they got too ****y and couldn't close the deal. You don't get points for blowing out Buffalo in October. I hear Dan Duquette in my head "More days in first place." You need to close the deal to be #1.
I'd put the 2004 team #1.
I agree. I have always felt that the 2011 team was a bonus. They should have lost to the Ravens in the AFCCG. I think they were the weakest of the bunch under Belichick. The '96 team should have won that game, and would have, had Parcells given them a real shot. He was more interested in furthering his own agenda than winning that game. I have always felt he wanted to stick it to Kraft, that it was about him, not the team. It was his way of getting back at Kraft for not letting him buy the groceries. This may not be popular, but I think the 96 team was better than the 2011 team. The 96 team went up against a juggernaut with the no. 1 offense and no. 1 defense. There really shouldn't be much shame in losing to them. The Pats did put up some fight, too.

2004 was the best team at the time of the Super Bowl. They beat a 16-1 team on the road in a blowout in the AFCCG. 2007 was the best overall, if you aggregate all of their games.
everyone is silly about this. You flip the Tyree catch, or the D stops them in any number of spots on that drive where they should have, and NO ONE would be arguing against them. And you Beast Mode runs the ball in with 20 seconds left, that 14 team is a just a footnote in history.Put yourself in Las Vegas' shoes and try and set a line for 07 vs any of the other teams. I'm pretty sure if your being honest the 07 team would be favored in all cases.
That being said I do think something seems wrong with it being number 1. I guess it's all part of the story. We go 3 out 4 twice and oh those weren't even our best teams right in the middle we went 18-1 too.

2007 Pats, first 8 games average margin of victory roughly 29.. Last 8 roughly 9 (still pretty great)
18-0 going into SB
18-1 Best record in franchise history, can only be topped by an undefeated season (in terms or record)
18-1 record only done 3 times ever..
18 games in season win streak, NFL record.
absolute fluke SB loss on top of that.
EASILY number 1.
The thing that hurts the most about that season is that Randy Moss didn't get a ring.
