We're On To Jacksonville

No turnovers on O is critical. Spread Jax out with a quick passing gamer and make them rush Brady to tire out the D line. That D has a lot of swagger and a good mix of free agents and young talent at all levels. May well be a case of beating them with 4th and 5th options on offense.
Get an early lead and make them abandon the run and force Bortle to win the game for them.

From what I saw today. :D
Really the first Jax game I paid attention to this year
Well I would be dangerous out of the backfield if no one covered me and let me run 40 yards untouched. Nothing special
About Yeldon.

Getting to Brady...Coughlin knows that's how he beat the Pats twice in the SB. I won't be surprised to see their D do a 180 from the Steelers game plan and blitz a lot...at least until Brady burns them.

Chris Ivory is no slouch. The Pats had issues with him when he was with the Jets. TJ Yeldon is good out of the backfield catching passes as well. Maybe not as good as James White, but still good.

On a separate note:
I am appalled at the attitudes of experienced posters on this board. People thinking that just because Jacksonville gave up 42 points to the Steelers that they somehow don't have a defense. The Steelers are no slouches even if they are poorly coached and have crappy attitudes. Roethlisberger and Brown and Bell are a handful. You add in Schuster-Smith and Bryant and that's a load for any team, including the Pats.
Jax has built up stats against poor offenses and h ave had their troubles with good offenses. They have holes to exploit and who's better at that than BB?

You've forgotten what the Broncos D did to us in our non SB years over the last 4 years? I would say that this D is superior to the Broncos D and could pose a serious threat to us. For the first time in a while, I'm scared that we actually lose since this defense has talent at every single level - an excellent pass rush, excellent secondary, etc. Their offense isn't star studded at all - which is a plus - but the Patriots won't be scoring much next Sunday.

Ahhhh

We like put up 41 points on that historical Broncos defense this year.

How exactly do you come on a thread like this and actually state this after the defense in question just gave up 42 points and 550 yards?

....and the superior Patriots offense will not score?

Seriously, this has got to be the most stupid post since that 2014 idiot early season.

I never said it would be easy. Which is why I'm hoping some of our injured parts are able to play and Waddle's able to function.

The Patriots have small receivers who are not named Antonio Brown, unlike the Steelers, and the Jaguars mailed it in against the 49ers. I'm sure that Tom/BB/Josh will work hard on a game plan, but we've seen this offense get limited/shut down time and again, over the years.

Fair points. I'll try to post some clips later this week from those matchups and show why I think we can take advantage of them in similar ways, but you're right that the have the requisite parts to cause problems for us on defense.

I'm not sold on Bortles at all, though. Brady vs Jag's defense > Bortles vs Pat's defense, the way I see it. Should be a good game, though.

We just manhandled the team that swept the Jags LOL. Formal though, this should be a decent game but I have NE winning. Bortles isn't great and will turn the ball over a couple times (at least). Spread them out, short passes, bubble screens, etc should deflect that pass rush. We got this fellas.

3 big things to look at:

-Did the steelers expose something in jax defense? They look dominant at times but ben hung 42 on them - playing from behind - without benefit of turnovers.

-How bad is fornettes injury and will it be a factor next week? He looked pretty average in the 2nd half trying to play through it.

-When did mark brunell become an insufferable pu**y??

the Jaguars mailed it in against the 49ers

Wait. They were still in play for a bye and went out to SF and you are giving them a pass as just mailing it in?

Because at the time they were 10-4, Steelers were 11-3. They could have won out and had the steelers slipped up they both end up 12-4 with Jags having the tie breaker.

So no I'm gonna reject that they mailed it in. They want out to SF and got 44 points put up on them.

Not necessarily. NE won't attack them in a similar manner. They'll do so with quick passes over the middle to Gronk, Amendola, and the RBs. They likely won't attack them deep or outside a whole lot. They'll also be able to run on them.

The Pats may not put up 42 points, but they'll control the game much better than Pittsburgh did and cruise to a win.

Well...I have not watched Jax this year but based on everything I saw today I dont undertand how this is one of the best defenses in the league. Are they really good, sure in some situations.

565....Granted the Steelers have some fantastic playmakers on offense.

Fornette - well like others have said he was looking average the the second half, wait a few days when that ankle starts to really hurt and swelling increases.

I think the Pats can beat this team but I also think based on today you just dont know for sure....I think a slow start by NE would be hazardous.

Pitt had success in the short passing game too though. Some short stuff to the rbs snd tes with good yac. Thats just how much success they had through the air as we mostly remember the long balls but they did alot in the short and intermediate. Granted, I haven’t seen alot of jax this year but the d is clearly their strength.

My point was that you shouldn't expect NE to attack that secondary deep and outside with as much frequency as you saw today.

It'll be a more controlled and cerebral attack.

To answer your initial question - yes, the short passing attack over the middle, as well as run defense, has been Jacksonville's weakness this season.

What are people saying?

Jaguars did need some things to go their way like stupid decisions.

An INT that set them up inside the red zone

Strip Sack TD return because Roethlisburger has to hold the ball for his guys to get open 30 yards down field.

Turnover on downs at the JAX 21 (They go for a FG it's 14-3. Jags score and make it 17-0)

Turnover on downs at the JAX 39 (At this point it was 28-21. They are 4th and 1 and they throw it. That should have been a QB keeper. Or punt the ball and try to pin them. At that point Jags hadn't moved the ball more than 20 yards on a drive in the 2nd half)

28 points off of turnovers

There was also that terrible onside kick decision that put Jags in FG position to make it 45-35 instead of Steelers kicking deep and having the 2 minute warning and 3 time outs and trying to force a puntt to give them a chance to tie it 42-42

You rarely see half those things happen by the Pats in a game let alone all of those things.

Jaguars still angry that the Steelers overlooked them.

Looks like the Jags might pull an anti-Steelers and underlook the Patriots.

Just an FYI.

Vikings favored by 3.5 over the Eagles and the O/U is 47. Vegas is saying this game will be Viking 25 Eagles 22 then I guess. Personally I would have the Vikings by a little more but I can see why they aren't going too much.

Patriots Favored by 9 over the Jags and the O/U is 47. Vegas is saying this game will be Patriots 28 Jags 19 going by those numbers. Personally I'm surprised the Patriots are being given 9. I thought 7.5 max.

I wonder how much of this is perception and how much of it is Vegas just still not believing in the Jags. I think a lot of fans are going to like the Jags and those 9 points. I honestly do.
