NFL coaching and executives carousel: news and speculation

They absolutely butcher the OL, have no running backs and surround Wilson with absolute garbage receiving talent except for Baldwin and Graham in the redzone. They threw away a golden opportunity to have a place in history with a run since 2013.

It seems pretty obvious that the Seahawk "dynasty" was built on Carroll's intimate knowledge of the college kids coming out of the first couple of drafts and the fortunate choice of Wilson, which covered for the disaster of signing Matt Flynn, and then some.

2010-2012 is the team's core, and the cupboard's been pretty bare since then.

The next domino to fall: There is still work to be done, but the likelihood now is that new #Bears coach Matt Nagy keeps defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. The spots are filling up.

After overtures from Seahawks and Packers, defensive coordinator Gus Bradley is returning to the Chargers with a three-year deal, per source. Continuity for the Chargers.

The #Chargers are bringing back OC Ken Whisenhunt, too, according to a team official. So, Gus Bradley and Wiz both return to LA with new contracts.

So McDaniels after all his success ain't getting a HC gig in 2018?? If McDaniels doesn't get hired this year we can book it that he will be the BB heir in the future.

It seems like there was nothing so far that Josh liked enough to leave the Pats. By all accounts he had enough offers..

Very shocking to me I thought McDaniels would be perfect fit for Giants with that O. All they would need to do is Draft a young QB for the future and ride Eli for a few more years.

Hiring a coach because he liked the QBs you drafted? Sounds like the bears.
I’ll never understand how teams go after inexperienced guys who really haven’t even had success.
The Bears appear to have very poor ownership/GM acumen. Hiring Fox was a big mistake and now this guy? It's pretty sad. Chicago is an NFL bedrock franchise that just can't get out of its own way.

The Giants are just dysfunctional mess with questionable ownership, a broken locker room and a team that on defense will not be sustainable for much longer than the upcoming season.

The Colts looked like the ideal landing spot. But if Nagy actually rejected them to take over Chicago maybe Lucks return to active football is not as certain as many think.

Very sorry to hear about Andrew Luck and his bum shoulder thought the year off would have helped....doesn't sound too promising going forward on his front. Definitely see McDaniels sticking around now. The Team that gives Mike Vrabel a HC job is going to live to regret it he's so unproven.

That would be pretty weird and a somewhat shocking development.

Part of me wonders if that might be too big of job for a rookie HC. He might be better off in DET than NYC (job wise, not city)

Owner who plays to the crowd
Old Qb situation
****ty cap situation
New GM w/o a historical relationship or philosophical commonality
Lock room with a lot of bad apples
#1 media market in the Milky Way Galaxy

Didn't Luck just start tossing a tennis ball?

Not really. Nesn already reported that while Matty is Lions top choice, he prefers the Giants. If the Giants want him, pretty sure he's gone.

Matty is from upstate NY so that makes sense (I guess)...did Matty grow up a Giants fan?

I am having visions of the final episode of the Pats/Giants "trilogy"... kill me now.

Matty P is from New York, went to school upstate NY. The media furor in NY around the Giants is big, but not as big as what Patriots have always dealt with.
He's also been able to watch the Jedi Master deal with it all these years.
Patricia will be fine.
I will really miss the guy. Helluva DC, a guy I'd love to knock a few beers back with and he'll always be a legend with Patriots fans everywhere for the clown shirt.

Patricia would be awesome to hang out with.

I'm just acting like a nervous parent watching their child go off to the cruel, scary world.

Like @robertweathers said above I think it is a mistake to go right into one of the bigger orgs as a rookie coach. The Lions situation with Quinn as GM and a 34 year old Aaron Rodgers in the division seems a bit more safe than the NY market who expects immediate results.

Tip of the hat if he actually has the balls to try this..

I can't think of many 1st time HCs who were successful in NYC.

You can argue Rex started out OK but fizzled out.
Tuna was
Ray Handley was not
Fassell yes
McAdoo went 11-5 then imploded

NYJ
Pete Carroll was not
Bowles is questionable
Mangini was 10-6, 4-12 and 9-7. No, but you could argue if Favre did get hurt he would have made the playoffs 2 of 3 years.
Herm yes for the most part
Coslet no
