Kraft is almost forcing Belichick to leave: if BB wants his chance to prove his independent greatness., it'll be easier to do with another team, free of Brady and Kraft.

I believe Belichick was right -- he should have traded Brady to SF in this off season and gone with Jimmy G. Fans would be in an uproar, but it was the right move for the franchise.

Kraft thought to placate the fans by not trading the declining GOAT, but is now facing losing his other GOAT as well. And if the team just becomes average, he'll lose the fans anyway.

I would take winning a couple of more Super Bowls with the goat. Let's not put jimmy G in the hall of fame yet.

Any chance we can remove this moron troll?

Patsfans is putting out an article tomorrow:

"There's a growing rift at BSPSN"

"A source tells me that with no end in sight to the ongoing layoffs the tensions between BSPNees have risen to Titanic sinking levels"

"Another source says, Mike and Seth nearly came to blows"

"Mike was heard calling Seth a Hawt take *****".

Whoa. I can't wait to read that one.

When I read that article this morning, I thought it full of speculation and hype built upon the conjecture of anonymous sources. I'm sure there are some kernels of truth in there, surrounded by that detritus of the hype machine, but I was willing to let it be. Let it be, that is, until I saw the video, which I couldn't really watch, primarily because Seth has what could be the most punchable face that I've ever seen. Maybe Ted Cruz in one of his smuggest moments would give him a run for his money, but the puffed-up face of that puffed-up wannabe is a giant fist cushion. Kudos to Mike Reiss for restraining himself and remaining professional. Or maybe it's just the height difference, and he'll lose control walking down the stairs one day soon. Still, I look forward to his response. He's a good guy. It will be worth the wait.

Quite a posting history....you must have a lot of sources too or just not a lot of opinions.

Yeah I know it's been said on this thread but wow....Brady was mad that he wasn't named Patriot of the week. That's probably the number one thing I took from this article.

1. Is there an award for Patriot of the Week? I've been following this team for 25 years and have never heard of that award. And they announce awards for best offseason (parking spot), Practice Player of the Week, show videos of players getting game balls, etc. They are pretty on the record about their awards. So I guess Patriot of the Week is some top secret award that they don't publicize for some reason.

2. Can you EVER imagine Brady being mad about that? He's never cared about individual accomplishments. He scoffed at winning the MVP last year. He doesn't ever talk about personal stats and only gives credits to his teammates. So compared to those things, him not winning the fictional Patriot of the week award and being mad about sounds like the most absurd lie I've ever heard.

So even if (a) I weren't already biased against Wickerson and (b) BSPN and (c) the article weren't all anonymous sources, I would still look at that one stupid Patriot of the Week fact, immediately conclude it's a lie, and then that calls into question anything else in the article.

The sad thing is that the haters are gleefully jumping on it. Go look at the Deadspin comments (actually, don't do this; Deadspin already has three joyful posts about this article up today). People are like 'Brady is so petty, can't believe he was whining about not being named Patriot of the week.' I don't let what the haters say get to me anymore, especially after Deflategate, but it's another thing that's gonna come up all the time now, so annoying (hence my 'God d%#*!@t' post on page 1 of this thread).

Are we going to pretend that Wickersham hasn't previously written / co-authored quite a few other pieces on the Patriots, specifically on Belichick and Brady?

I don't love this piece at all. I think it's fair to criticize it. But people are acting like this guy's someone they've never heard of who couldn't possibly have sources within the organization. There's a body of work that suggests otherwise - he has some access.

I asked primetime earlier to show us the good journalism in this piece, so far he has begged off on that. You are welcome to show us the examples of good journalism in this piece?

Belichick scoffed at SF when they asked about Brady.

Show us where he said he wanted the trade Brady to anyone, let alone SF?

Not sure if this has been posted:

You can tell Mike thinks this article is complete garbage.

The problem is what happens when something that's in the interest of Client A is detrimental to the interest of Client B?

(I'd actually really like to know what the "rules" are for that in the sports agent world. How is an agent supposed to manage a conflict like that? In the legal world a lawyer would have to drop one or both of the clients. I know that's not what happens with sports agents, but how is it handled?)
Interesting question. Even if it seems oxymoronic, there must be a "Code of Ethics" for "Sports and Entertainment Agents." My guess is that the code comes down to "you know it if you see it" and is self-policing. If an Agent acts against the interests of a client, it will be transparent because all Professional Sports Player Contracts are public and because the Agent business is a cut throat business, where these people are all over each other all the time. If an Agent screws a client, it won't stay secret for long.

If the unsubstantiated stories are true that the Pats attempted to negotiate a cap friendly deal with Garoppolo in the off season which would allow the Pats to keep both TB and JRG (I think he's now earned the right not to be referred to as "JAG"), then Yee didn't let Garoppolo sign a deal that was against his interests. Ethically, that seems solid to me. assuming that Garoppolo was aware of the risk of a career-ending injury on the practice or playing field, of which he clearly was aware.

You could make the argument that that was against Tom Brady's interests, because the Pats then had to decide between Brady and Garoppolo. Or, you could make the argument that that was in Tom Brady's interests, because there was now no way they would ever let Brady go. As it turned out, the latter was the case. In either case, Yee would be negotiating any future Brady contracts, with the Pats or anyone else. So, it was all the same to him.

The only risk Yee was taking was that JRG would suffer a season-ending injury on the practice or playing field, before he had the opportunity to negotiate a contract for him. Otherwise, Yee was in a "win win" situation.

He gave his client JRG the proper advice not to sign a below market contract, which momentarily put his client TB at some statistically measurable risk, but which would most likely not have a negative impact on Brady.

JRG's fate was then out of Yee's hands until next spring, when the Pats would either Franchise or release him. If he was franchised, Yee still collects his commission. If he was released or traded, he would ultimately get to negotiate the contract and collect his commission.

Now I understand why one of my kids wants to be a sports agent.

The twitter response from Reiss saying that he had some thoughts on the article but wanted to present those thoughts in the most professional way tells you that he indeed does have some problems with his ESPN co-workers.

We can read between the lines to conclude that he knows many aspects of the article are outright lies. The question of how to call out those lies, when they are coming from your employer, is one that Reiss is understandably struggling with. He likely wants to counter un-sourced claims with sourced rebuttals, and given that there is no access today. that will be hard to do.

Unfortunately, by Monday the sources will be saying "We are on to X" where X = Buffalo, Kansas City, or Tennessee.

I am hoping that Kraft or others throw him a bone, exclusively. We will see.
I am so f-ing sick of Reiss getting shredded for working at ESPN. I'm sure there are people on this board who have worked at companies that have done some unethical crap (I know I have). That does not mean the employee is unethical. It means they are associated with it and have a choice. Stay or leave.

I bet in Reiss' situation hes being paid well. Hes local to the region. Hes married and has little kids (one with medical issues) and doesn't have to do a ton of traveling. Hes covering THE DYNASTY and doing the best he can to cover the team in a professional, ethical way while distancing himself from his scumbag employer and not irreversibly damaging his career (meaning he can get a job somewhere else).

I really wish some of the posters here would cut the guy some slack
