Yeah he was shockingly bad...not a good trade, but you can't win them all. Between him, and Ealy, I do think it's fair to ask who exactly is scouting pro D-ends and making recommendations? 2 big whiffs.

What big whiff ? They both didnt cost much in draft capital or salary.. thats not a big whiff but two low risk attempts that didnt work out...

Well, now who's going to play our position of "white edge rusher with tons of tattoos and liberal politics"?

I think The Undertaker is a Bernie Sanders supporter.

Most surprising thing to me is that it took BB 11 weeks into the season to decide to cut bait. Not that I thought/predicted at any time that Marsh would sucked so bad he deserved to be cut. It just seems weird timing (took so long) to be figuring it out. And then grabbing some guy off Jills PS, it's not like he can have seen much film on a PS guy, other than college stuff.

Atlanta just cut Jalen Collins (CB), who's eligible to play, following his PED suspension. If Rowe's going to be a while, that might be one to watch. Marsh was an upfield rusher who couldn't adapt to a more thoughtful approach.

Bad trade. Time to move on.

This is too bad but in no way surprising. Bill's mantra is the well known "Do Your Job". And Marsh often wasn't. He was often caught way out of position (look at the tape and its all there) and when you consistently freelance, well just ask Jamie Collins how Bill views that.

In retrospect the problems he had rushing upfield too deep were probably not responsive to coaching. If he simply continued doing wrong what he was doing, he was toast. If Collins could be cut, a 5th rounder that is unresponsive to coaching is dog meat. Too bad because this Homer had high hopes for him. But in my heart I knew that when time after time he failed to set the edge, he was headed to the doghouse. Not a good year for BB signing FA DEs.

I did too but a 5th and a 7th rounder aren't exactly high draft picks and if selected individually would have been unlikely to make a contribution anyway or outright cut in camp.

And the 7th was the pick the Pats received from SEA in exchange for Coleman just a couple days earlier. So, essentially, the trade was Coleman and a 5th for Marsh.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Marsh was repeatedly making the same mistakes over and over. Bill had seen enough.

And he did block a FG, didn't he? That's something anyway.
It might be injury related.

We are nearing that time of the year if marginal players cant get healthy by playoff time they are either cut or put on IR.

Seeing how he wasn't even IR'd that indicates something else.

So at the start of the year BB traded a CB who didn't play and a 5th for a kid who in 2016 had 3 sacks and 9 pressures as a sub-rusher- which is good.

At face value thats not a bad deal but carried with it little risk and downside.

He takes the worse angles I have ever seen in the NFL. I wish someone has a clip of what he did on Lynch 25 yard run. It was so terrible that I think that is what made BB cut his cost now.

Lee was signed as a UDFA in 2016 by the Texans and spent the entire season on their PS, so BB may have gotten some info from BoB on him, in addition to college scouting.

Interesting that BB chose to poach a PS DE rather than promote Grissom who is at least a known commodity on ST.
