Boone's hr wasn't talked about after 04, and 07. Bruins collapse against Philly was a mere footnote after 2011. Is 07 now just something people won't talk about as much because of 14 and 16? My friend asked me if 07 hurt. I say yes but the memory of that game fades more after what we've witnessed the last three seasons.

We won two Super Bowls in the most satisfying ways I could have imagined. Some may still feel differently but after that I couldn't give a **** about mourning for 2007.

I vividly remember the beatdown to the Bears (and given the fact that was the first run, you tend not to forget it). I remember '96, because you felt like that was a winnable first.

I will never say the 2007 finale was the worst or most painful loss. It was historic, and not all that enjoyable with the Spygate drone that got louder in the playoffs. The Pats had 3 titles under the belt at that time. It was a testament to the best team does not always win the title game.

To me, the worst losses are still the 2006 AFC Championship and 2010 Divisional Round loss to the Jets. Getting thumped by the Ravens in 2009 wasn't much fun either.

I get the whole "I want the perfect season" chatter, and people putting huge emphasis on an accomplishment that is skill and a bunch of luck would make that more disappointing. I want the Pats battling for titles, and know that means they cannot win them all (if the expectation is more than compete, then the Pats will be a very unsatisfying experience because they are less than 1/3 for all the Brady years - winning is never a given, and 5 titles is ridiculously impressive). They win enough that 2007 does not now and did not then keep me up at night. Close game, and they lost. Bad matchup with a good front 4.

Losing to the Colts was awful and depressing. Losing to the Jets just made me get pissed off and drunk.

Brady destroyed Pittsburgh earlier that year too. Imo they win the SB if they beat the Jets. I'm not sure what caused them to come out and play bad. Maybe they thought the Jets would be too scared after the MNF beatdown. Maybe it was Welker distraction.

06 AFCCG loss stung. After Samuel took it to the house, I went online and ordered tickets to Miami.

I'll say this about 07: That team has a better chance of winning the SB if they lose to Baltimore on Monday night or Philly in SNF. I believe the weight of being undefeated hurt them. Also, remember how the Patriots gained confidence after losing to the Rams by seven in 01? Same with Giants keeping it close in finale. Nonetheless, I can watch that game without feeling bitterness anymore.

IIRC the 2010 defense was very close to as bad as the 2011 one was, Rodgers might've shredded them in the SB

It was more like:" Here we go again. Patriots have colts number in the playoffs". Manning had been a choker to that point. Ultimately that game would change the narrative on his career.

Ok this started as a short reply but a bunch of random thoughts popped into my head. So what I initially thought was a blah OP turned into what I think was a good question.

This seems like an age related question. I'm 50. So that means before Boone there was Bucky F'ing Dent, Buckner's ball through the legs (who shouldn't have been in the game because he was injured) , 1986 SB loss, 1-15, "1918" 86 years etc etc... plus no championships for any team from the mid 80's till 2001. Then seemingly all of a sudden bam bam bam championship after championship from all 4 major teams. (Have to add that although no championships through those years the mid 90's had some competitive teams that were fun to watch.)

10 Championships since 2001 is just ridiculous.

The last two SB's have shoved so much karma up so many asses so I'm good and 2007 doesn't bother me any where near as much as it did prior to 2014.

And to top it off I got to watch the last two SB's and the WS with my now 11 year old son AND celebrate the 2004 Red Sox WS championship with my Grandmother (huge Sox fan) who was born in 1918. That's just some crazy ass stuff.

Btw: These teams haven't just won championships rather they've won them in some kind of historic fashion. Biggest underdog, largest comeback (twice), Timmy standing on his head, and a being down 0-3 "never been done before in a 100 years" type stuff. Wow.

I think it's a decent question and putting "18-1" as a title is a bit clickbait-ish but it hits straight to the point.

Bitter losses in all four major sports over the years, to go along with glorious victories.

Failure to let Gostkowski kick, and dropping back to pass a million times against a team whose only positive ability was rushing the passer, let the game be close.

Afterward, even in the bitterness of losing a title and undefeated season after having been raked over the coals and dragged through the mud unjustly and undeservedly the seven months prior, several Pats showed grace and class in acknowledging that Eli got to get out from his older brother's shadow.

But the Giants typically showed their classlessness and unrootability by dressing for the Patriots' "funeral" prior to the last game of a season dedicated to Marquise Hill, who lost his life after saving a young woman. This, only weeks after everyone treating Sean Taylor like he was a head of state or something.
