Pats stole Jets' calls - the latest fantasy theory [mergedx3]

Meh if we lose a draft pick or something then fine, I'll take it. I'll just ignore what all the media is saying about this. I'd rather not find out.

I never really feel 100% comfortable about Patriots games and am always certain we are going to win but I think we beat the Chargers and I am not even a little nervous about them. Unfortunately we've got a bit of a wait.

See, the thing I find REALLY eye-rolling about this is everyone else piling on the bandwagon...."Oh, yeah, we saw them doing that too!" Maybe they did, but this just screams sour grapes to me. We have been very, very good for a pretty long time by NFL standards. I'm sure there is a lot of vitriol for our organization out there and this just illustrates how much.

They are all just trying to discredit the success of this team which is *********.

Teams were sent a memo and told to not do what the Patriots are accused of doing. I hope to heck the very smart NE people didn't just do something very stupid.
Goodell doesn't mess around. If it really is true, we're losing a draft pick. And I would only hope it's not a high pick.

I just find it baffling that the Patriots would try this after being warned to not ever do it again...and against Mangini's Jets, no less. Of course he/they would be looking for just this sort of thing.
Hopefully we'll know soon if there's any of that on the tape.

Based on the comments from Mort, in his articles and interviews, here is what I've gathered:

1. Mort says spying is a major issue in the NFL right now and offseason measures have been taken to prevent it.

2. Mort says that though the Patriots have been fingered before, they are not the only team.

3. Mort's definition of a "hard penalty" was the possibility of a draft pick loss.

4. Mort has spoken to guys on the competition committee to base his assessment of a hard penalty. That said there will not be a forfeit.

5. My thoughts: One thing people don't realize is most of these guys on the competition committee do not want a huge scandal/ p*ssing match, which is why the sanctions are usually light. Even if other teams suspect the Pats have done this to them, it likely won't be a public smear campaign.

Based on what I've heard so far and past NFL sanctions, I would expect the following:

The Patriots will lose a late round draft pick. It will not go to the Jets, but be forfeited.

The Patriots will be constantly monitored from this point forward and restricted with their press agents.

One final thought: this is the NFL, and these new allegations are nothing new. Teams pay a lot of money to security crews to prevent these things. That said I think it's unlikely that the sky will fall and suddenly the dumb rest of the league will realize the Patriots have been spying every game, with a cameraman standing in front of the sidelines. Most likely the Patriots biggest sanction will be a cloud of suspicion over their glory.

Did the Phins lose a draft pick when there players were bragging in the locker room to reporters about how they had tape of the Patriot signals?? Not that I am aware of.

Did the Colts lose draft picks for pumping in crowd noise and turning up the temperature in the visitors locker room? I don't think they did

If in fact this is true, there has already been a presidence set here. The Pats should lose nothing!

Nfl Makes Announcement: Confirms That Tape Is Being Reviewed

per ESPN...
NFL security confiscated a video camera and its tape from a New England Patriots employee on the team's sideline during Sunday's game against the Jets in a suspected spying incident, sources said.

The camera and its tape were placed in a sealed box and forwarded to the league office for investigation, the sources said.

"The rule is that no video recording devices of any kind are permitted to be in use in the coaches' booth, on the field, or in the locker room during the game," the league said in a statement from spokesman Greg Aiello. "Clubs have specifically been reminded in the past that the videotaping of an opponent's offensive or defensive signals on the sidelines is prohibited.

"We are looking into whether the Patriots violated this rule."

The Patriots' cameraman was suspected of aiming his camera at the Jets' defensive coaches who were sending signals to their unit on the field, the sources said. The league also is investigating some radio frequency issues that occurred during the game.

The league's competition committee could conduct a conference call about the incident, which violates NFL policy, and ultimately recommend a penalty that could cost the Patriots a future draft pick or picks if it verifies that the team was spying on the Jets.

...

Patsies in some hot water....And for what purpose?

I hope this stuff isn't true because if it is and we lose a high draft pick than it was D-U-M dum.

I can live with the loss of a draft pick. Thought I'd much rather it doesn't happen.

Other stories about to be told by ESPN:

The game official that was bribed in Denver made the wrong call on the Bailey fumble as he was supposed to have correctly ruled touchback.

We also rigged last years game in Indy, but evidently, the people that were paid off did not realize they were only supposed to turn on the heat on the Indy side of the field.

Both of these incidents prove that double espionage is a real problem in the opposing teams home city.

Other that that, we would be going for our 5th SUperbowl in a row and 6/7.

Do they think we were born yesterday, do you ever watch the clock when we have the ball - we always get those extra few 10th's of a second extending our drives.

When we long snap, we have an invisible rope which automatically places the ball in the hands of the punter or the holder (Yes, the damn rope broke yesterday and BB was pissed at Cassell for now checking the rope, they do wear out.)

And, reliable sources have told me that the guidance system is just about repaired so that Gostkowski's kicks will once again go straight and true (it has been out for about a month now, they promised to have it ready for San Diego game).

This Jet incident is a minor setback, but don't worry, we are so stacked now we will win the next 5 Super bowls in a row anyway. Payoffs have already been made.

Could a single cameraman, acting alone, possibly have stolen the Jets coaches' signals? Some people are speculating that there must have been a second cameraman. NFL investigators are now focusing on an audio tape which seems to have recorded the sound of a camera shutter clicking in the area of a grassy knoll near the runway to the Jets locker room ... stay tuned. Wait Mort, we have more details coming in right now. It seems a congressional committee is now being formed right now to investigate these very serious allegations...

If this is common, why are we being singled out here - same as with the HGH. If it is not only us - why are the fingers only pointed at us.

This is bullspit and I hope we are vindicated 100%.

I could live with that. I don't think any stigma will go back in time (well, people will try but won't succeed). Even if any of this is proven true, it's the first game and it just so happened it was our team that got caught. The rest of our record this season shouldn't be called into question. This may be a wild assumption on my part, but I can't see teams keeping the same signals year to year with all the free agency out there.

What the hell are you saying? do you think this is some grassy nole consipiracy?

Isn't Mort the ESPN guy that got a suspension for showing women a picture of his P3n!s that he took with his camera phone?
sounds credible.

I don't understand...if these are very serious allegations then how come our worst punishment would be the loss of a draft pick?

Um, no, that was Salisbury. Mortensen is about as credible a source as there is in the league.
