My "hot takes" from last night ...
Defense
... looked better through three quarters, and they tightened up well after both Pats turnovers. Then they gave up 214 of Tampa's 409 yards in the 4th (3 long drives), plus a TD, plus a chip shot FG opportunity, plus three big plays on Tampa's (failed) game-ending drive (Thank you, Jon Jones). Tackling was still a problem on several plays.
... DL was getting blocked out to open big holes for Martin in the first half, but tightened that up a bit in the second.
Offense
... Brady missed a couple of throws, but Cooks dropped two and White dropped one. The OL (and other blockers) allowed one jailbreak that resulted in the Brady fumble. However, on at least four plays that I saw, Brady got hit because he had to wait for someone to get open. At least one of the other two sacks was a coverage sack, and Brady ran twice because everyone was covered.
Overall, Brady dropped back at least 47 times. He tucked and ran twice, got sacked three times, had two completions to Amendola negated by offensive penalties (including a cheezy OPI on Amendola). Of his 40 official pass attempts, he threw one pick, threw one into the turf deliberately, had three dropped, and completed 30. Officially, he got hit 6 times after making the throw.
Gillislee and Lewis, on 19 combined carries, accounted for 104 of the Pats 113 rushing yards. However 31 of those 104 came on Lewis' breakout 31-yarder, leaving them with a 4.05 ypc on the other 18 carries. It seemed to me that the Pats rarely ran twice in succession and, when they did, the second attempt got stuffed more often than not. In their previous three games, the Tampa defense had allowed 20, 125 and 91 yards on the ground.
BTW, Lewis does seem to have regained quite a bit of his old burst and wiggle.
Subtracting Brady's two scrambles and Lewis' breakout, the Pats had 20 designed runs for 77 yards (3.85 ypa). And 47 dropbacks ultimately generated a 75% completion rate for 289 net yards (9.63 ypc) and a TD.
