Dungy: Brady 6th best QB since 1978

Dungy is just bitter and jealous because the Patriots were always the better TEAM.

He only has 1 Super Bowl to show for his career and NE would have destroyed Chicago had they made a play or 2 more defeating his Colts once again. The only recourse remaining is to trash the winners hard work, smarts and success because of your own failures.

Thats just how it is today.

Gottlieb on FS1 just talked about this. He basically said Rodgers is the best QB of all time, and someone not ranking him in the top 10 is more ridiculous than Brady being #6.

So he isn't much smarter.

I would take Rodgers (and Drew Brees) ahead of the tea-bagger without hesitation.

Ahead of Brady? Not now, and possibly (probably?) not ever.

Honestly Dungy deserves a lot of credit for winning a Super Bowl on a playoff run that Peyton tried to choke away as hard as possible. His defense getting hot at the end of the season (which carried over to 2007 when they were the #1 scoring defense in the NFL!) got the team through that Super Bowl run. Peyton contributed 7 picks to only 3 TDs in that run, he was a liability in almost every game. His signature postseason win was a 1 TD 1 INT 79.1 passer rating bus driver role in the comeback over a Patriots team trying to use Reche Caldwell as a #1 wideout.

The team was balling out while Peyton kept trying to gag away games and he held them together and let the defense & run game do more heavy lifting. Not being sarcastic.

Peyton carried Dungy TO the playoffs every year. But he didn't carry Dungy THROUGH the playoffs every year. Or most years.

Edit: Forgot to add, the 2007-8 postseason might be Peyton's ultimate choke if you account for how good his team was. That team had the #1 scoring defense in football and he goes 0-1 in the postseason because he couldn't win a 4th quarter duel with BILLY VOLEK.

All the guys selected above Brady suffered far more losses...so you just need a good defense

Everyone seems to forget how good the 2007 Colts were. There's so much talk about the 2007 Patriots, but the 2007 Colts might have been the second best regular season team of the entire decade. They were leading the Patriots by, what, 10 points in the fourth quarter when they met that season? Their defense was lights out, Harrison and Wayne in their primes, and the confidence coming from their championship the previous year.

I remember have some severe anxiety in 2007 that the Patriots would get knocked off by the Colts in the AFCCG...I thought the Patriots were a better team but not by a wide margin.

One-and-done. Manning completely crapped the bed once again in the playoffs. Classic Manning game...400 yards and 3 TDs, but he threw 2 very costly picks and of course choked in the end.

I do have a question to those who lived at the time: Were the 70's Steelers and 80's 49ers reviled as much? I was a kid when the Cowboys were dominating the 90's and I know that it was sorta split down the middle where I lived at the time (NY) - seemed like you either loved them or hated them and no in between. The same could be said about the Bulls in basketball, though almost everyone at least had a heavy respect for Jordan. It seems like it's Pats fans and then everyone else for the 2000's. Great teams tend to have quite a few detractors, but I don't know if I have personally ever witnessed so many people seemingly refusing to give credit to one organization. Just stubborn stupidity. I guess it's mostly players and coaches of teams who felt they were robbed - Faulk, Dungy, Porter, McNabb (though he's softened his stance in recent seasons), etc., but it's still pretty pathetic.

I don't know. We didn't have cable, internet or the flood of social media back then. Three or four channels on TV left little need to create ratings 24 /7.

I do remember that MNF was a must watch back then regardless of who was playing and we would talk about the great plays or players during that game on the school bus the next morning.

Cool memory: My dad would let me watch the MNF football games sitting in his recliner. He would sit in my mom's chair. It was his way of convincing my mom to let me watch the game. "Don't worry Honey, he'll fall asleep before halftime. He can sleep right there". Of course I rarely fell asleep. :D

If you thought Tony Dungy couldn't stoop to a new low, you were wrong..

To Tony Dungy, Tom Brady is No. 6 on list of modern QBs

Granted it doesn't get much lower than bullying your own child into suicide with your evil, ignorant bigotry. But this is pretty pathetic, even for him. Every time you think he can't be more pathetic or stupid, he manages to prove you wrong. Such an absolutely vile coward. Outside of Ray Lewis I can't think of a guy I have less respect for in pro sports than this piece of subhuman garbage. Then again, at least Lewis didn't murder his own son.

I don't normally care about what other people have to say about the Pats. But this guy is such an absolute piece of trash. And it drives me nuts that people keep talking about the "class" of Dungy and Manning when they are both such absolute scum.

Meh, the argument is settled. The only real dissenters are people who are trying to get hits/notoriety, have an axe to grind, or are trying to say that we can readily compare the careers of Otto Graham and Tom Brady*.

*That's not to say one can't. I'm actually in the process of doing just that, but it's a far more involved process than these knuckle-dragging, cousin-****ing, oxygen thieving bastards have undertaken in their "analysis".

I do have a question to those who lived at the time: Were the 70's Steelers and 80's 49ers reviled as much?

No. Not even remotely close.

Why?
  • No internet.
  • No social media.
  • No cable television, just your local channels.
  • No BSPN.
  • No need to fill time on 24-hour sports channels.
  • Very little sports talk radio, and it was strictly local.
  • The theory to high ratings then was to boost up the product.
  • The theory to high ratings now is to create a controversy.
  • Then: if you wanted to comment on an article you had to mail a letter.
  • Now: anonymous commentary is immediate, and dominates our lives.
  • Then: hard work was rewarded while excuse makers were disdained.
  • Now: sense of entitlement; everybody deserves to be a winner.

Useful. Incredibly spiteful and stupid, but useful.

It helps us to reflect on all the self-righteously budding "legacies" that players, coaches and franchises feel that the Patriots upended or simply stopped before they had a chance to get going over the last 16 seasons.

Manning, Dungy and the Colts. The case at hand and clearly the most butt hurt of all (though they do have some competition in Baltimore).

But, there are others:

Warner, Faulk and the Greatest Show on Turf. The Pats "stole" their dynasty from them, didn't they?

Rivers, LT and the Spastic Spanos spawn. The Pats stopped them time and again and danced on their logo while doing it.

Roethlisberger and Cryin' Mike Tomlin. Sure Ben has two rings (one with Cowher), but how many more do you think he and Tomlin think they'd have without BB and TB?

Flacco, Harbaugh and the raging Ravens. Another team with one ring that they are sure would have been more except for them damn Patriots.

Sherman, Carroll and the sobbing Seahawks. The Pats literally snatched their budding dynasty away from them on the Goal Line.

Dancin' Arthur Blank with chokin' Dan Quinn and Matty Ice. 28--3. 2:12 to go in the Third Quarter. Almost unfair to bring them up.

So, here's my reaction to Dungy: let him have his hate.
Let Warner & Faulk and Flacco & Harbaugh have their hate.
Let all of them say whatever they want.
Bring it on. The more the better.

16 Seasons
11 AFCCG's
Seven SB's
Five Lombardi's

**** them all.
