Yeah, it's not enough for independent living by any definition. He'll probably need housing and health care from somewhere. Maybe that comes in the deal. He's definitely going to need health care.

At best he's got $1M socked away, probably less. Hopefully he's not touching that now, given that he'll need 5 times that to retire and deal with serious medical consequences of his chosen vocation.

Doesn't really matter, he's got some money from his career and this gives him a first step in going at a coaching career. Many great coaches start out in obscure settings, if they have what it takes and make the right connections they can move up to really good coaching positions, especially when they start out at his age.

And you can make really good money if you become a really good coach. In fact you can make really good money even if you suck as a coach, just ask most of those who have coached the Bill's, Fish, and J-E-T-E -S!
