Building the Patriots Big Board: Wide Receiver

Back at it again, this time with the WR class. You may want to carve out a chunk of time to read this as there is a lot of info in this section.

Building The Patriots Big Board: Wide Receivers | NEPatriotsDraft.com - 2014 NFL Draft

Love this series. Thanks for all the work you put into these writeups! I know from experience how much time they take (and how easy it is to get behind; my thread is terribly neglected), so I appreciate that you keep putting out solid content. More thoughts once I'm done making my way through the novella.

Thanks for the kind words. I have started reading your stuff in depth now that I have my DE/edge rankings done. Great work.

I'm a little higher on Godwin than most, and not just because of his huge game against USC, although the way that he toyed with Jackson in coverage was pretty impressive. I think he has clear traits that win in the NFL: namely, he's a crushing blocker and he excels in contested catch situations. He's got a little Anquan Bolden or Deandre Hopkins (my pro comp) to his game. I think he's an ideal complement to Cooks and Mitchell going forward.

Darboh is another guy I really like. He's not a #1 at the next level, really, but he reminds me of the good version of Brandon LaFell, who was a high end #2. Great body control and can make the circus catch.

LaFell:

Height: 6024
Weight: 211
40 Yrd Dash: 4.65 (4.5 at pro day)
20 Yrd Dash: 2.75
10 Yrd Dash: 1.64
225 Lb. Bench Reps: 11
Vertical Jump: 36
Broad Jump: 09'07"
20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.23
3-Cone Drill: 6.81

Darboh:

Height: 6016
Weight: 214
40 Yrd Dash: 4.45
225 Lb. Bench Reps: 17
Vertical Jump: 36
Broad Jump: 10'03
Vertical Jump: 36 1/2
20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.27
3-Cone Drill: 6.81

Some nice YAC:

Highlight reel of sideline catches with great body contortion and toe drags, and a ton of downfield shots:

Great job as usual midwestpatsfan.

I agree with you. Robert has the potential to be a #1 receiver.

He does need refinement as a route runner but he's not any rawer than many other receivers in this draft just because he went to a small FBS program.

Our receivers were our strength and coached well by Tim Lappano, the former Detroit Lions WR coach. Robert will be the second Panther, along with the Chiefs Albert Wilson, that Lappano has sent to the NFL which is great for a four years old FBS program.

Robert played great against Oregon and Wisconsin. He even scored a touchdown, when he was a sophomore, against Washington's Sidney Jones.

I don't know if there's any room for him on our roster, but I would love to see him here.

This is an interview/article with our former QB, Nick Arbuckle, discussing Robert as a person/player at GSU.

One late round name that I forgot to put on there is Austin Carr from Northwestern. I gave him a 7th round grade. Another Edelman type guy. Quicker than fast, tough guy who plays with a chip on his shoulder. Older prospect at 24.

Nice info!

Physically, at least, Davis is the closest we've seen to Julio Jones in the last couple years. He seems worth a shot in the 7th. (As an aside, the later round prospects are really growing on me; maybe we should just trade down until we own half the 7th round.)

HUGE Darboh fan. Besides great talent, has a great story about his life, seems like a great guy.
