Bill Belichick is unquestionably off to a great start. But there is much still to do.

Here would be (at least for me) the perfect scenario that sets New England up to completely dominate the NFL for the next 3 or 4 years.

1) Sign Dont'a Hightower. Obviously.

2) Do NOT trade Malcolm Butler. If he walks after next year, so be it. Having two elite CBs -- even if it's just for one year is worth the risk of keeping him.

3) Trade Jimmy Garoppolo to Cleveland for a 1st (#12), and a 2nd (#33) in this year's draft. I realize New England might actually be able to fleece Cleveland for more (tackle Joe Thomas perhaps?), but this package is probably what would be required for New England to accept the deal.

4) With #12 & #33 target defensive help, specifically, DE (pass rusher), LBer, or perhaps even another safety. I'll throw out a few possibilities:

Pick #12 -- Derek Barnett, DE, Tennessee. Perhaps best pure pass rusher in the draft.
Reuben Foster, LB, Alabama. After draft combine meltdown, he could slide.

Pick #33 -- Hassan Reddick, OLB, Temple. Elite athlete, could be a monster in NE scheme.
Tim Williams, DE, Alabama. He might lack in some areas, but he gets after QBs.

5) With the rest of the draft, make it a priority to find a really good RB. Perhaps even move up a round and give up some late picks if necessary. Here are a few suggestions:

D'Onta Foreman, Texas -- A big, physical back (6'1", 250) fast enough to make big plays.
Joe Mixon, Oklahoma -- Baggage? Yes. Talent? Yes. Perhaps best RB in draft.

6) Sign a vet QB to be Brady's backup while Jacoby Brissett continues to develop. Actually, I've got the perfect guy. He's an unrestricted free agent: Ryan Fitzpatrick. If Brady were to go down, Fitzpatrick could step in (with all the surrounding talent) and lead New England to a Super Bowl victory.

7) With all the quality TEs in this draft, select one. More insurance for Gronk. Suggestion? How about Jordan Leggett from Clemson. Big target, nice hands.

That's it, ladies and gentlemen. Pull these final few strings, and the Patriots and Tom Brady are set up to DOMINATE the NFL and win multiple titles in the next 3 or 4 years. 19-0? Very possible.

Is Belichick truly going "all in?" If he makes these moves, there will be no doubt.

Feel free to leave you dream scenarios as well.

I agree with most of this but no dice on having the jets qb as backup...id rather get osweiler

My dream scenario is a bit too much of a fantasy but we all have our little dreams.

Let BB pick everything and Tom Brady be the QB

I agree. I don't see any reason to trade Malcolm Butler right now, unless Belichick has already made a gentleman's agreement with the Saints to give Butler away in exchange for Cooks (with the #32 pick being given back to us, pending sucessful contract negotiations with the Butler camp)

But, it always takes two to tango..... and if talks between Butler and the Saints breakdown (and the Saints refuse to give us back our #32 pick until Butler agrees to a long-term extension) there's a decent chance the Patriots may allow Butler to play out the rest of his contract (with the possibility of using the franchise tag on him next season)

Obviously, I feel our secondary is better off with Butler than without him, especially with this season's schedule of elite QBs and WRs

Stopped reading when I saw someone seriously wondering about Joe Thomas. It's gonna be one of those threads..

Great response.

Did you notice I said, "Joe Thomas PERHAPS," with a question mark????? In other words, PERHAPS Cleveland would be that stupid.

Great response.

The response this thread deserves.

Sorry to burst your bubble but Butler is gone, it looks like Jimmy might stay and Reddick will be gone by the time we draft.

Also can we please stop with the Joe Thomas dreams? Even if he was available, he has an untradeable contract that neither him nor the Browns will just void out of the warmth of their heart.

1 - sign Hightower
2- win next sb
3 - Brady retires
4. Pats continue dominating for 10+ years with garoppolo
Are you going to be the one to tell Tom Brady (after winning another Super Bowl) that he has to retire and can't be a Patriot anymore?

Wait, I thought after my Thomas comment you stopped reading?

You missed my point (twice) about Thomas anyway. No, I don't think Cleveland is including Thomas in a trade for Jimmy G. It was a question wondering how desperate they might become. Got it?????

Sign Hightower.

Don't trade Butler. In fact, if NO makes an offer, unless it's outrageous, match it. Keep him for this year, and also for next year at the franchise tag number. They can afford it. THEN let him go when he's coming up on 30 years of age.

Sign Mangold.

Trade Garoppolo for a 1st, a 2nd (or 3rd), and a 2018 pick.

Draft: Pass rusher, LB, CB, and power running back (who can be late in the draft).

Sign Osweiler at a minimal contract (he's already gotten his huge payday) to be a backup. I'm not opposed to the Fitz as backup idea though. For minimal dollars.

Great post. Agree with you about Butler -- keep him for 2 years and there's really nothing he can do about it. And he'll make a lot of money in his second year.

Signing Mangold would be really nice, too.

1 - sign Hightower
2- win next sb
3 - the other 31 owners and the league's front office concede
4 - they have no more fabricated cheating allegations left
5 - they admit that they are unable to compete with the Patriots, Brady, or Belichick
6 - the league shuts downs
7 - we have our Sundays back
8 - the women of America rejoice
9 - the end

One thought about Butler. For those saying he's gone -- maybe. Sure, he's unhappy, he wants out of NE unless he's paid now.

But if you're Belichick, aren't you thinking about what's best for the team? NE has all the leverage, they can keep him. So why wouldn't you?

That's obviously not how this is going to go

Butler goes and garoppolo stays

BB can't be seen as someone who goes back on deals. Let's assume BB & SP had an agreement. There is no advantage in BB now going back on that & asking for more. Obviously, it was Butler for Cooks w a few draft picks in play.

Good move to "stick to your word" as future dealings will be even smoother.

Well, if they had an agreement, sure. But what if they didn't?
