Butler visiting Saints

So I thought that the Saints were pretty close to the cap. How do they manage a big play for Butler? I think they were so cash-strapped that the Cooks deal had to take place so quickly so that they could save like 900k.

I have high hopes for Jonathan Jones. Like Butler, an undrafted FA, but with blazing speed and is scrappy like Butler. Have somewhat high hopes for Cyrus Jones (if he can get his confidence back), and Coleman is coming back. Add in, we can draft a CB with New Orleans' 1st round pick (either 11 or 32), I think we have all that going for us to make up for the losses of Ryan and Butler.

Next man up, lost Revis and Browner after we won the SB, and still made the AFCCG that next year, won the SB the next.
Coleman sucks!

it will be a ****ing farce if we only get 32 back

So the Saints apparently have little cap space, meaning any contract w/ Butler will be cap friendly in the first year. Makes it easier for BB to match any offer. If I'm BB, if the Saints want Butler, it will cost them # 11 or the equivalent.

They'd be doing us a favor in my opinion, keep the beast!

Yeah.... from the beginning I kind of viewed the dream CB tandem of Gilmore and Butler similarly to the dream S tandem of Harrison and Milloy. At least the latter made it into training camp....

Personally I was hoping we'd keep Butler this year, let him go and get the 3rd round comp pick in 2019. Getting pick #11 for him this year is better and I was thrilled with that. If we're looking at pick #32 or, as Peter King is suggesting, #42 and #76? Much less thrilled, I'd rather just keep him on the one-year tender. But what do I know?

And the payment to Cooks was only $780 K, which is pocket change for an NFL team.

Florio is saying you aren't allowed to sign a RFA with a tender with the intention to trade them...It'd be pretty obvious at this point but NFL rules are so arbitrarily enforced..

That's my guess. The #11 pick is on the table. Has to be.

Texans are now interested in Butler. Potential 2nd round pick for him.

IMO - 1st round or bust.

Because they already had a handshake agreement during the Cooks negotiations.

Well i hope our 3rd rounder's included. Number 32 for butler? Really? Geez.

Hes not going anywhere until he signs the tender unless BB and Payton work out a side deal.
If he signed the tender he gains nothing and loses the ability to negotiate with other teams (including the ability to force the Patriots to match a deal or be allowed to leave if any team is indeed willing to give up a first rounder). If it comes time later to do a sign-and-trade, so be it. But for now, signing the tender would be stupid.

Is the Brooks trade official yet?

If so than screw this. Nothing less than number 11

Texans made the playoffs last year, it's almost a 3rd rounder, tell them to F off BB.

If you think teams don't negotiate with players that have signed the tender you are kidding yourself.

Teams wont give up a #1 unless they have certainty that the player will be happy and able to get them under contractual control
