It's easy, and only takes a few moments.Don't get me wrong -- I don't need to be sold on him, I'm sure he'll be great. I just think the Pats already were reasonably set at WR and have greater areas of need to which those draft picks could've been applied.Tunes pal , just saying, spend time watching this kid and you will see what BB saw.
Kind of funny to think of who brady was throwing to in 2013 and the riches he will have next year.
You never know what to expect from belichick. Trading first rounders for legit wrs and giving big contracts to cornerbacks seems so out of line from where he was a few years ago
It really feels like they are going all in. Has shades of 2007
yeah its difficult thinking of the optionsDon't get me wrong -- I don't need to be sold on him, I'm sure he'll be great. I just think the Pats already were reasonably set at WR and have greater areas of need to which those draft picks could've been applied.
I hope not. I've been holding out hope that somehow JG will hang on as Brady's successor.yeah its difficult thinking of the options
You happy and stooked ? or you want the trades back ?
I think Jimmy gets you a #1 draft and BB already figured that out or would never have made the deal. Id say JG is gone %100 now.
yeah its what im hopping also or you give him to usI hope not. I've been holding out hope that somehow JG will hang on as Brady's successor.
I'm a big JG fan, I think he can be the real deal. And I'm fine with whatever BB does with him.I hope not. I've been holding out hope that somehow JG will hang on as Brady's successor.
I think we'll have no other choice.I'm a big JG fan, I think he can be the real deal. And I'm fine with whatever BB does with him.
Meaning I trust whatever the coach with 5 rings does.I think we'll have no other choice.
Very nice 1st postHaven't posted in this thread. Just wanted to say that it was a great trade. There is no guarantee that you will get a Brandin Cooks type of receiver at # 32. Cooks is the real deal and has proven himself already. Elite speed, excellent hands, excellent route runner.
This is a home run threat every time he touches the ball. This is our Antonio Brown, our Odell Beckham Jr. Sure, he's not as good as those guys. But his first 3 years are better than what Brown did. He averages 81 catches per 16 games. Averages a little under 1000 yards per 16 games. And it's only under 1000 yards because I included his injury shortened rookie season. His last 2 years he's averaged over 1100 yards.
Now, I expect these averages to go down, because we still have a ****load of weapons at the WR/TE and RB slot. But no reason to believe he won't catch 60+ passes for 800+ yards and 8+ TDs on average for the next 5-7 years (if we extend him, which I expect, he's only 24 when the season starts).
My only question is would he be okay with the reduced targets based on what I read about him in NO. The ball gets spread around a bit more in NE.Haven't posted in this thread. Wait, what's the Rutgers count?

Speaking only theoretically here: Let's say BB kept the first-rounder and used it on a young stud linebacker who would start for the next five years, then found a running back with the other pick who supplanted Blount, or a promising OT. I'm not anti-Cooks by any stretch, but I'd rather have that. Of course, we'll never know and draft choices are a crapshoot anyway.yeah its difficult thinking of the options You happy and stooked ? or you want the trades back ?
See the above. Your point about 103 vs. 118 picks is a valid one and I do hope Cooks is the big difference maker everyone expects. Are we talking about the same trade? This trade was an absolute steal. The Patriots have not had a receiver with Cook's skill set since 2009. This deal allows the aging receiving core to continue to perform at the same level only with less touches. Less touches will likely increase the odds of having a healthy Edelman, Hogan or maybe even Amendola in the playoffs the next few years. Greater area of needs is thrown out the window when a deal like this is on the table. And really the Patriots did not give up picks with an "s". They stole Cook for the 32nd pick and to make it not a 100% total embarrassment to New Orleans the Pats swapped the 103 pick for the 118th pick (a whopping net loss of 15). PEANUTS! This is the ultimate example of a no lose situation. What need could possibly outweigh the positives this steal provides? We all forget the Pats offense stumbled against Houston early in the division series and it looked like they really missed Gronk. This trade fixes that. Rejoice !

Cousins,
No one has mentioned this as I see it. BB Drafted Deion Branch. I believe it hurt BB and Brady when he left (both on the field and pride). It hurt Branch's career as well.
Cooks is almost the same size comparable 3 cones and vertical jump. Cooks is a tenth faster but they are of the same type. I believe Branch player both outside and the slot.
Is Cooks the Branch clone the Pats used to win a Super Bowl with? Does BB envision him to work to field like Branch did?
Just a thought.
Would it be unlike BB to eschew the whole Draft to show Park Ave. "We Don't Need Your Stinking Draft Picks" That would be a great story line. We will trade for ready players rather than "definite maybes" in this Draft to show the NFL he can!
The thought process there is that the majority of picks, if they work out (17%) don't mature for a few years (ripen) .....Just in time as Brady says bye, bye.
Example: Clowney, Pryor, Pats-Jimmy G, Pat Chung, Matt Light etc.
Example: You need OLB Help. The Eagles are dangling Mychal Kendricks who is still young and great in coverage for a fifth Rounder. He is a ready player. There are many more out there that might be better than a pick. You are Drafting from other Teams not kids that...who knows.
