I'm not "lamenting" that at all. I'm just questioning the price paid for what was not an obvious area of need.

If the Gronkless once in a lifetime comeback due to the safeties and LBs having no respect for needing to be aware of other than 10 yard routes wasn't a red flag than nothing else could be.

So yeah, it was an obvious area of need, especially with the age of Edelman and Amendola and Gronks injury history.

Also, Gronk will be near unstoppable now with Cooks on the field. That in itself is well worth it.

If I'm the Pats, Brady's top 3 WR targets this year are, in order: Cooks, Hogan and Mitchell.

Edelman can extend his career YEARS with these three taking the bulk.

Same with Gronk if Allen clicks with Brady.

And I take Amendola or Floyd back, hell yeah, if the money's right.

This team is sick in depth.

Imagining all of the cover-2 to take away Cooks and Hogan outside, leaving a lot of room for Gronk in the middle in single coverage.

You're probably right and I'm just being sentimental.
Or you're right and I'm just drastically underestimating the market for him, but like I said, it would be difficult to imagine going from 1.5m to 5-6m a year, especially after seeing a much reduced role where he only caught 23 balls.

OTOH, he proved his value in the postseason once again, so I can understand why he may get more as someone else's WR3-4.

Bill wants 19-0. I imagine 2007 still bothers them both, the perfect season is the final major check in their G.O.A.T. resume.

This team will be filthy good if they retain HT and keep Butler. Odds on favorites to win the Super Bowl.

I will say you have no idea what you just got. I was the same with Blount to patriots.

This is a new era friend. He is that good.

If JAG is still on roster (and I think he will be) my guess is Cooks takes #17

Resign Hightower, Pick up the 5th rd tender on Gillislee, sign Mangold so he can get a ring.

Game Over.

Simply WOW!!!

This offense lol... Really excited to see what he can do!

I just hope that he isn't disgruntled about his contract, because I don't think BB traded that much draft capital to immediately extend him on a monster deal, but he also didn't invest that much draft capital to let him walk via FA in 2 years either

Cooks will be an amazing weapon in this offense, especially with a healthy Gronk next year

Buckle up everyone, they're going for a double three-peat!

This is so incredible. I'm totally geeking out about these moves. I just keep mentally going through all of Brady's weapons and thinking about what the offense is gonna look like.

Keep in mind, we're not just adding Cooks. We're getting Gronk back. And a full season of Lewis, and upgraded Mitchell.

Oh, and we didn't give up Butler. Instead we added a top 7 CB in Gilmore to the top scoring defense in the league.

To paraphrase Han Solo Let's get Hightower locked in and go home!

(Told ya I was geeking out)

I don't hate what they gave up, and I'm real excited for Cooks. Mentioned in multiple threads I think he's the 11th or 12th best receiver in the league, and he's the youngest of the top 20 who isn't Mike Evans or Amari Cooper. Weird that their first pick is at the top of the 3rd, but Garoppolo is still in play. Or maybe not. I'm probably still on Team Keep Jimmy.

Edelman and Amendola go down, which is not out of the realm of possibility, and it becomes a huge need. Further, Belichick saw what a legit threat to take the top off did for this offense last season. It propelled the offense to a title. He figured he'd add more firepower. I'll look forward to reminding you about how you questioned the price of the trade as the Pats are lighting up the scoreboard next season.

Hogan/Edelman/Amendola/Floyd/Mitchell will hit the ages of 29/31/32/28/23 during the season. With the exception of Mitchel those ages make receiver an area of need. Without doubt the BB approach is to continue to get young on the fly. Cooks (23) immediately accomplishes this. You will be one of the loud and proud dweebs as soon as you see this guy play in what will be a sicker than sick scoring machine.
