Patriots trade for WR Brandin Cooks (NO BUTLER INVOLVED). Gave up 1st & 3rd rounder for Cooks + 4th

Why should we keep only four?

I can't see the Pats keeping Amendola at his current cap hit after this move. I doubt Danny will agree to a restructure just to be one of this particular group. He's arguably the 5th WR now. I could be wrong.

Regards,
Chris

Cooks is the most impressive WR I've seen in person at practice (been attending TC since 2013, haven't seen Moss obviously). Butler simply had no answer for him on 1-on-1s. Edelman tears CBs apart at camp and Cooks was even more impressive.

He's only 23. He'll run more routes than just deep bombs here. He honestly could be Antonio Brown 2.0 here. Crazy.

Yeah Baby!
BB on a War Path. Sending a msg to NFL* Not only winning SB 51 with rog's* Bogus Draft penalties to stop us but this year BB making up for it BIG TIME!

For BB to give up a 1st and a 3rd for a WR is unprecedented

OK Butler couldn't be traded. FYI

Why should we keep only four?
I am guessing that perhaps he is thinking that usually the #5 WR is a player that contributes to special teams on punt and kickoff coverage, getting down the field quickly.

Right now nobody (other than Slater, if you call him a WR) fits that category on the current roster. This acquisition could mean Amendola is on the bubble (even with another pay cut/restructure) and makes the re-signing of Floyd less likely.

Could also be that the #5 WR isn't going to get enough snaps/targets to be a concern. Aside from four other receivers ahead of him there is also Gronk, Allen, Lewis and White. How many receptions will a #5 WR get in this or any offense?

I'm gonna guess Amendola is probably a goner now, unless he takes a seriously massive pay cut just to stay on as the like... 7th or 8th option...

Wonder if there's a trade market for him? Though I can't imagine BB would send him anywhere he didn't want to go after how many restructures he's done.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised at all if he restructures his contract so its a minimal hit on the cap. I don't think he would pass a physical if another team wanted him.

With that said I love having Danny on the team. He is mr. Clutch. Comes up big in big moments.

Please trade Jimmy now and reload draft picks
Yes he is emptying the shelves on the Draft picks available as of three days ago. We have a second rounder, three fourths (would have been 4) , two fifths and a seventh.
Jimmy G is gone!

Now re-up Butler with some real fair $. Resign Hightower (must), sign Fluker for your swing guy, take a flyer on a elite but getting cheaper RB (OR SIGN BLOUNT), perhaps Charles. Sign Floyd who will sit for 4 games anyway but will be fresh if JE, DA, Hogan or Mitchell get dinged up and is good insurance. Now you have young WRs in Cooks, Hogan Mitchell and Floyd. I love JE but the way he plays I cringe as he gets miles on him.

You need two more D linemen and an OLB/Edge. How about Connor Barwin who has been a favorite on the forum?
AND another sneaky signing might be Poe? We will still have the CAP for all of those.

My binkie might be Devjn Taylor (Lions) 6'7" 275 lbs 4.72 speed and a 6.89 3 cone (Bill?). Only 4.5 sacks in 2016 but had 7 in 2015. He is only 27. Played opposite of Clowney at South Carolina.

As far as OLB? Mychal Kendricks could be had from Philly. They want a fifth and we have two. Only 26. Had 106 tackles in 2013. . Great coverage and had good production until D coordinator change. Still young.

Cousins, look at it this way. With the acquisitions to date, who would not want to play here? Park Ave must be burning.

wanna bet? JG is here next season and is the starting QB of the Patriots in 2019. Don't ask me how but that seems like the plan. The real question is what do they do in 2018 because I highly doubt Jimmy is signing any sort of deal and most likely will be franchised for 1 season. This thinking is actually making my head spin.

Garoppolo will be 29 years old when Brady's contract runs out. He made it 5.5 quarters before going down with an injury so I'm not sure a nearly 30 Garoppolo is the greatest succession plan.

oh yeah, broncos record setting 2013 offense is gone.
Respect. Record setting and/or top scoring offenses in total points have not exactly been producing many SB champions in recent years, including the one you mention. So I'm good. Give me a dangerous offense with a top scoring D and I'm happy. No 19-0 or any of that nonsense. I'll take 14-2 and a SB victory gladly.
