Looks like the Patriots are setting aside the $$$$$$& for the #1 overall.

Not sure what to believe. Lots of statements.

I believe Malcom and his agent.

It's quite the claim to say you haven't talked contract since atleast last year.
It's Belichick and the agent, and Malcolm is right in the middle of it all.

What the hell is going on here?
This entire situation just keeps getting more and more bizarre.
Maybe the Saints talked to him as part of the attempt to see if they could get a long term deal done with him?

Butler is from Southern Miss, probably good 3 hours or so from NOLA. He'd have to agree to a sign and trade I think...

I have my reservations ok butler but I can't for the life of me understand trading a defensive player for a wide out.

We've been really good at that position the last few some odd years and it makes no sense. I'd put CB as the second most important position in football.

Yeah we def have made out well with value guys at wide out, a great CB is not easy to get your hands on. Gilmore and Butler would be amazing. If Cooks and Butler cost about the same hypothetically...it'd be nuts to not take Butler.

I'd feel a hell of a lot better with Butler and Gilmore on the outside and hopefully Jones or a draft pick to play the slot. Trade other pieces for Cooks if you have to. If you can have two shutdown corners in the modern NFL, you have something.

You guys are easily amused.

Cyrus probably turns out to be a good player, although I'd prefer he batted down passes as opposed to intercepting them .

Las Vegas could set an over/under wager on the number of picks Belichick would end up with after acquiring the number one selection in the draft.

That bet would take years to become official. The total and final selection from the multitudes of trade downs and/or future trade outs would probably be something close to 18 picks and end with a mid 7th rounder in the 2023 NFL Draft!

What i don't get is butler made one of the greatest plays in supre bowl history to win the game and give NE ist fourth title. Hes played very well since and at a pro bowl level this last year. Why isn't this team rewarding him? Why give the money to another cb and snub butler it makes no sense to me. I hope kraft steps in like he did for Vince W. butler deserves to get paid, not jerked around.

This team IS rewarding him. Was he even a certain starter going into 2015? The Pats tried to keep Revis, remember?

I'm guessing that right now Butler could put way north of $20 million in his pocket.

If you mean, "Why aren't they paying him #1 corner money?" it's because he's not a UFA. Hes an RFA, which means he can get the guarantee, but will have to roll this cheap season into along-term deal, likely.

Butler built his career here in no small part because the Pats gave him the chance and helped him along (the play you mention was practiced leading up to the game - Browner was a big part of the play, too).

Butler has now proven himself - I love the guy! - and he's almost certainly in position to secure the rest of his life financially. Right now. With a phone call.

If he has some need to be the best paid, or if he thinks that he needs 16m/year or something, then he had better hope he doesn't have a catastrophic injury playing for under $4 million this year.

That's how it works.

If Kraft went over BBs head and signed a player which he was against he would have quit.

If he has some need to get paid ha ha ha thats funny. The man earned a pay day. By making that int the franchise made a fortune off winning that super bowl. And from what ive read or heard he be satisfied with gilmore money.

Thats not what im saying. Kraft intervened on wilforks behalf when the front office was playing hard ball. The monies not coming out of bbs pockect, its coming out of krafts.
