A tag would or could mean they are close to an extension to get rid of the tag.

Not if no tag...Will you get a bit more worried?

No because I don't want them to pay Hightower what I suspect he wants. Too injury prone and not a guy who takes over a game in my view. Very good player but I let him walk for any more than 9 mil/year which he will far eclipse. Nothing personal, just economics

I would be extremely surprised if he is not tagged. To answer your guestion. Yes

When we had jones, collins and hightower the question was "how do we keep all 3!" Then we traded jones and collins.

If we let Hightower go as well I will be very disappointed. We have the cap space. And dont have a replacement.

BB let go of the following:

Wilfork
Jones
Collins
Revis
Browner
Arrington

within two years and the D was arguably the best it's been in a decade.

I trust BB with 60+ million in cap space. If he decides Harmon/Ryan or some other outside FAs are more valuable to the defense than Hightower than more probable than not it is the right decision.

Look's like the chiefs will make berry rhe highest paid safety and put the tag on poe. Can anyone tell me how's this possible? I notice they only have about 5 million in cap space

Yes, just a bit.

After this year though, after he thought McClellin, Van noy and some rookie to be linebackers for the SB champs, i'm willing to trust him

If you wouldn't be a little nervous at a JAG central linebacker core then you're waving the pom poms a little too much.

Hightower is a great leader and has made huge plays with Super Bowls on the line, it would also be impossible to tell how bad a loss it was until you seen who else would brought in and how they played, if you're telling me that Hightower leaves and they get just another Van Noy or McClellin in then yes i'd be very worried.

Not anymore. SBLI makes me comfortable with whatever they do.

To answer more rationally:
Franchise Tag for High is too high (3M above the highest payed ILB instead of what it actually should be - 10-11M (average top 5 ILB contracts=10.3M). No way BB lets him play under tag so like Miguel suggests it would mean long-term is in the making or trade.

Tag and Trade High lets get a second back if we wont break the bank for him

I want him back badly. I am holding out hope that tomorrow we hear the word of a contract.

I still wanna know how the chiefs are signing two of their biggest players with 5 million in cap space.

BB made his best and last offer to the free agents before the season began. I doubt
any negotiations are going on. His only decision is whether to give Butler a first or
second round RFA tender. He can save a little money with the second round tender.

I definitely want him back but I dont think the tag is a good idea. If you tag him at about 15M then that gives him leverage. If your trying to pay him say 12-13M/year and you tag him for 15M then he can just play out the year for 15M and cash in next year for probably even more. Tag to me only makes sense when you are planning to pay him more than the tag or you are desperate and really need to retain the player. I dont think belichick is going to pay him 15+M/year and I dont think he is desperate.

I dont think anyone would be willing to give you a second round pick for a linebacker on a 1 year 15M deal.

Maybe it's about the guaranteed money at this point
