I'm going to Houston (still have to buy my ticket)! Who else is going?

I'm from DC as well and found some solid flights to Dallas ($220) and renting a car from Dallas to Houston is only about $80 total and 3 hour drive.

How many tickets are you looking to get?

I might be going solo. All my pats friends won't pay for a super bowl trip.

Yeah, noticed that too. Hope the trend continues. The only thing that if you buy a ticket on the secondary market - stubhub, seatgeek, etc., they have a comission and 2 600 turns into almost 3 000.
Yeah, stubhub/seatgeek are awful with that crap. Stubhub charges a 21% "service fee" so although their ticket prices appear to be cheaper, they're actually much more expensive.

I've been looking at ticketmonster and tickpick (both reputable sites) and they have zero fees. Tickets on both sites are around $2800 right now. I've been refreshing just about every 2 hours haha

Are you planning to go?

It's a 9 hour drive for me. Debating on heading over Saturday, probably no chance of getting in the game but I think it would still be a really fun experience. When it gets closer to the game those who are going need to set up a place to meet up!!

Same. If you're interested I'd be down to potentially get tickets together. If you'd rather go at it alone that's totally cool, too. Just figured I'd look on here with guys I've seen posting rather than rely on meeting total strangers in Houston.

You all are lucky. Like an idiot, I planned too many other vacations this year (D.C., the Keys, Chicago, and Austin) and can't see devoting any more money toward going. I'm going to smarten up and not book anything in 2018 because, should the Pats make the big game next year and get in the position to try for bookend dynasties, I'm going.

I had given some thought to going this year. I'm finally healthy enough to travel a fair pace. Then, I got a look at prices and the idea went away. Far, far, away.

Unless I win some contest, or gain a huge inheritance, it's like as not I won't be going to a SB.

Between a ticket, transportation in city, a room, meals, and fare from Maine to Houston, it's well over $5K.

Sigh.

It really does suck how expensive these events are. Between massive corporations buying them up to impress clients, to celebrities, and wealthy fans, the prices skyrocket.

Not sure what your ceiling is but if I were you I would look at flights to Dallas. They are so much cheaper than Houston and you can rent a car for $80. Get a *cheap* hotel outside of the city for $200ish a night and you're looking at potentially cutting $5,000 to around $3500. Just a thought

Yeah, it's pricey all right, especially with travel and stuff. If the Pats had gone to the Super Bowl when it was in NJ, I would have gone, since I'm local.

Last time I spent big on tix was for Game 1 of the 2004 World Series, back when we lived in Maine. Took both my sons and my dad, God rest his soul. Figured, when the heck would I have a chance to do this again with the four of us? 4 upper box seats behind home plate cost a total of $6000. Generally I don't spend that much on something unless it has an internal combustion engine. LOL

But it was well worth it.

I'm not going, but I have some advice that may help with the price. If you use ebates, you can get cash back on the ticket purchase. Ticket Liquidator for example gives 6%. Plus right now they also have a code for $250.00 off a Super Bowl ticket of $2500. So, you may be able to double up on the discount: 6% off 0f $2500 ($150) + -$250 discount. Hope this helps someone!

Thanks for the tips, andrew! Ticket liquidator lists the tickets cheaper ($2,314) than any site so far ($2,685 on tickpick) but do you know if that discount is already built into the price? I"m not seeing an option to insert a code. Also, apparently I'm an amateur because i'm not sure what ebates are. What do I do to get that 6% discount as well?

Thanks again!

Ebates.com
It has a code at the top of Ticket Liquidator : SuperBowl51TL . Tickets must cost $2500 though to use that code, but if they are under $2500, you can still get 6% back.

Sorry, I didn't answer the second part. If you sign up for ebates, just takes a second, click on Ticket Liquidator through their link, and then purchase, they cut you a check and send you your cash back. They cut the checks about 4 times a year (I think). I use it for shopping all the time.

Would like to. But I'm living in Europe, so for me it's a bit harder. ) But if the prices go down further... We'll see. Anyway, hope that you and other patsfans can get the game tickets!

There is very little if any tailgating at Super Bowls these days. All parking access is strictly controlled and the stadiums have a surrounding "compound" full of attractions hours before kickoff -- exhibits, entertainment, shopping, food, etc. -- accessible only by ticket holders. Staying outside tailgating is the last thing you'd want to do, too many unique festivities happening inside the gates.
F the tailgate! When we went to New Orleans. We tailgating right in French Quarter n walked to the Stadium

Next year's super bowl is in minnesota lol. that's probably the worst location for it.

i have a plane ticket ($715) and a hotel ($850) that is 1 mile from the stadium! But I still have to buy a ticket. waiting for prices to go down a bit.
Some guys went down to Nawlins in '02 and paid $500 to security get into Dome...not gonna happen today

You wanna avoid problems like this when you get down there

We were in Minneapolis for the Ryder Cup in September. The Vikings new stadium is fantastic. Plenty of great restaurants, nice people, much of the downtown is linked by skybridges. I'd go in a heartbeat.
