OT: Brent Musburger to retire

I will always remember and laugh about the indignity of Musberger getting fired on April Fool's Day. Never could stand the guy, especially as an NBA announcer.

Gonna miss Brent DEEEEEEEP.... MIDDDDDDLEE

Always liked Musburger...calls a great game

It's time. I don't think he held up as well as Verne Lundquist.

Why all the hate? People seem to act as if he peed in their Cheerios, or worse. He's just a sports announcer who's had a long career and is gonna retire. Personally, I wish him a happy retirement.

Okay, he's retiring.....okaaaaay?

Brent Musburger retiring from broadcasting at end of January

Thanks for the memories, Brent, especially for the NFL Today on CBS with Phyllis, Jimmy and Irv...

... that was must see pre-game TV for us football lovin' old timers.

"We're coming to you LIVE....!"

The NFL Today on CBS was THE pregame show.

I never understood why NBC chose Pete Axthelm for the handicapping. He sucked. He was a columnist and wrote about horseracing. He wasn't in the same zip code as Jimmy. "The Greek" set the lines for the Cleveland Mob back in the 60s for Scalish and made them a ton of cash. I switched over to NBC once they brought in Willie McDonough. NBC fumbled thru Costas/Gumble/Len Berman hosting and Paul McGuire for analysis. Irv Cross wasn't much better I suppose.

The 30 for 30 on Jimmy The Greek was outstanding. Really went into the blood feud between Brent and Jimmy. Jimmy punched Brent during a show I think. Crazy.

Look just because he didn't pee in your Cheerios doesn't mean he didn't pee in someone's Cheerios. Guy was redundant, morbid, and full of himself. His game presentation was like an SNL skit parodying itself (whatever that means). At least he won't be abusing anymore LLWS games. Poor kids and our sensibilities. Bon voyage.

Just discovered via Wikipedia that Irv Cross is still alive, age 77 -- same as Musburger. Always liked that guy.

Brent was a better studio guy no question.

Unless he was cat-calling co-eds, listening to his play-by-play is like attending a tax seminar.

Yep, and whomever replaces him will be peeing in someone else's Cheerios too.

Personally I doubt the retirement of one broadcaster proves or disproves the existence of God.

Why are people so invested in the person calling a game?

Do you also flip out when you find a different person taking your order at Dunkin' Donuts?

timing is curious though, middle of basketball season. I hope there's no health issue.

I don't think there's a health issue since he has already announced he is opening a sports handicapping service in Vegas, but I have a sneaky suspicion it isn't a voluntary retirement.

Brent was over the top on the hyperbole. Someone (say Dr. J or MJ) would make a wide open 15 footer and he would go on an on on how great a shot it was. An when someone truly made a praiseworthly play, Brent would beside himself. Glad to see him go.
