IIRC he went from special teams to DB coach in Philly before HC in Baltimore.....Harbaugh was the Special Teams Coach, a little different than a position coach.

he was DC for the patriots before becoming HC of the jets.Mangenius!?
That's fine but he was, and had been, ST coach which still is quite different from a position coach.Actually, Wikipedia says he moved with the Eagles to DB coach:
In 2007, after serving as Eagles' special-teams coach for nine years, he became their defensive-backs coach. This fulfilled his request to head coach Reid and improved his chances of landing a head coaching job, since executives at that time viewed special teams coaches as unqualified to move up to head coach. But quibble away ...

He's been a positional coach for two years. What has Vrabel shown to merit an NFL head coaching job?
I actually loved Gase simply because he'd gotten good years out of Manning and Cutler (Cutler had a career high passer rating with Gase). Talk about two different personalities.I think it can be hard for any of us outside of the league to get a bead on which coaches are buzzed about. E.g. Adam Gase was coming off a single year as the OC of the #23-ranking scoring offense and looked like a pretty random pick for the Dolphins, but so far so good.

We all know that Vrabel was considered to have a tremendous football mind and leadership skills as a player. If that's translating well to the coaching arena, people in the game presumably know?
I'd love to see him come back to the Pats in some capacity.
Why in the world would you compare him to Rex Ryan? I see no similarities at all.I'd like to see Vrabel succeed but he strikes me as the kind of guy who might peak as a coordinator like Rex.

Why?I don't either, except that they might both be best as coordinators and not head coaches.
except vrabel (41) is older than belichick when he was hired by the browns (39) and mcdaniels when he was hired by the broncos (32), so it might be too late to label him as an arrogant young genius. How about this?
Vrabel gets a HC job fairly soon, takes the Belichick-McDaniels arrogant young genius path and only lasts a couple of seasons. He's hired as a defensive assistant to Belichick, then takes over as DC when Brian Flores gets a HC gig. He ultimately succeeds BB as Patriots head coach.
You heard it here first! (And probably last. )
Why?
Tight Ends coach?I'd love to see him come back to the Pats in some capacity.
