Michael Floyd is a beast !

I was thinking about why it didn't work out for Floyd in AZ. A good HC, a good QB (relatively), a good team (relatively). He's their big WR pick to go along with Fitzgerald. He's very talented and expectations are HIGH. In AZ he has the year everyone expects him to have in his 2nd year, but doesn't repeat it in 2014. 850 yds and 6 TD's is NOT a horrible year.....unless you are a #1 draft pick and SUPPOSED to be the focus of the offense by this time.

Over the last 2 years, he's only started 13 of a possible 28 games with AZ. I've read he has gone through some injury problems, but they haven't seemed enough to keep him out of games. So he clearly was on someone's sh#t list there. He wouldn't have be cut if he'd had over 1000 yds and 10 TDs, so they were pissed about his play as well, and weren't going resign him after the season. The Cardinals were a disappointing team going no where an needed to shake things up right after Miami beat them. Floyd's screw up was the perfect excuse to cut him. It sent a strong message to rest of the team. I get it. Might have done the same thing myself. The thing is that it couldn't have gone better for the Pats.

I think the point I'm trying to get to is that Michael Floyd is supposedly a very quiet guy who obviously has some demons. He doesn't have the strong ego centric personality WR's seem to have. Maybe he didn't react well to having to be THE guy. With the Pats he's never going to be THE guy. That's Brady's job. That's Gronk's job. He can be a guy with 3 catches 40yds and a great block and be appreciated for a super game, instead of railed at for not doing enough. THIS could be an atmosphere he can thrive in and be a productive WR and not have to get out of his comfort zone. Who here wouldn't take an 800 yd 8 TD season from one of our WR's, if Gronk, Bennett and Edelman, etc are on the team.

Good stuff Ken. AND when he does contribute everyone rallies around him as if he made the play of the game. This team really does rally around everyone as you stated in your OP.

i am still impressed NOW...what a game...what a great acquisition could be...
GRANDI PATRIOTS

Did somebody just call Christopher Hogan "slight"???

David Givens was my kind of WideOut. At 6000/216, he was a Flanker's Height but a Split End's Weight, what I tend to call a Slot End. Not Fast, but Quick, and Quick wins one Hell of a lot more Championships than Fast...Beefy and...Physical, which he, Floyd, Hogan, and Mitchell all have in common.

Christopher Hogan.
Malcolm Mitchell.
Michael Floyd.

Mad Bill has imported more 1st Round level WideOut Talent in less'n a Year than ever before.

And he's learned from'is own Mistakes, too, getting 3 guys with rare Intelligence & Drive.

And I'm proud to say that I was sky freaking high on all 3'f'm!!

Oh. And he paid about a Buck and a half to get'm.

Could it unfold like this?
  • Pats and Floyd secretly agree on a new contract in principle, while he is still under contract with the team.
  • Starting in February, Floyd does three things:
  1. declares himself a free agent, probably not to return to the Pats, to reduce the extra penalty the *League will impose for the DWI if he were a Patriot.
  2. enters a rehab program
  3. deals with the legal system with whatever consequences there are.
  • The NFL suspends him some # of games for 2017.
  • Pats and Floyd add additional signing bonus to the original contract terms to make up for the loss of income in the suspended games. Floyd then signs this contract with the Pats, making a statement about the high character of the team providing him with the support he needs.
  • Floyd continues to deal with his life, with a structure that the Pats and he find promising, and joins the team at the end of the suspension.

Nice post, OTG. Kind of puts the Ochocinco stuff well behind us, eh?

maybe he'll make Brady a star.

Or even better, extend his career a few years by becoming the second coming of Randy Moss. Maybe not with the freakish athleticism but at least as a game changer on any play.

I'll take Floyd way he was Ballin' yesterday, game to game without comparing any one, thing or time. Bring it next game, stay healthy and hungry!

If we can bring Floyd, Bennett and Blount back. The offense is set for next year.

to think the pats midseason/end-season acquisitions to the team were Dion Lewis and Michael Floyd. two starting calibar players.

Pretty simple .... things went to **** in AZ and he was one of the scapegoats ..... Marcellus Bennett 2.0 ..... his trouble just made him more easily available .... lucky for us even if it only lasts 3 more games

He makes the wr core dangerously diverse

His "incident" and following release definitely lit a fire.

Good for us. Very good
Being a recovering alcoholic & addict myself, I really hope he's getting honest with himself and gets some help once the season is over

If he doesn't, his career is over

I'm happy he's gaining self esteem and proud of the way his Pats teammates are supporting him. He has awesome upside and heart-breaking downside

And if he straightens himself out, he'll be one of my favorite players

Yup...while others are getting weaker the pats are getting stronger....just not fair

He's like Bennett in that his former team disliked him, but that's where the similarities end. Any "off field troubles" people talk about Bennett having/previously having are complete ******** based on one prejudice or another.

Hope he doesnt go out to celebrate
I know none of us have bad intentions, but this really isn't funny

Michael Floyd has a fatal illness that won't disappear.

I too hope he doesn't celebrate because it could easily kill him

Floyd reminds me a lot of Hines Ward.

He not only plays like him, if you look closely, he even looks like Ward

Tommy!! How's it going?

About time you posted in this forum!

I really hope he has a couple more of those Miami game type performances here in the next few weeks and he and our Patriots are rewarded with a SB 51 title rings along with a "homie" hookup discounted salary 2-3 year contract extension with us! ;)
