2017 Draft Prospect Thread

i have no trust for draft TE's at this point, remember how much we all loved Jace Amaro and Austin Seferian-Jenkins? In three seasons those guys have combined for 1100 yards, Troy Niklas hasnt done anything at all, C.J. Fiedorowicz hasnt done anything until this season. Even Eric Ebron has been a dissapointment

I was so wrong about all those guys.

It really depends on who declares. Vita Vea is my #1 target, but it's not likely that he comes out as a redshirt sophomore, unless he absolutely dominates against Alabama (entirely possible). The more realistic target in the 10 - 15 range is Derek Barnett. He is a great player on the edge who should be a long term starter. If we wanted to go offense, Corey Davis would be my guy.

There are a TON of 2nd and 3rd round players that I really like, though, so I'd probably trade down to be honest. Great year to stock up.

And right on cue, Barnett breaks Reggie White's school career sack record.

How far could Chad Kelly drop? He's a guy I'd love to see the pats grab if he falls into the late rounds but I can't imagine all 32 teams would let him get too gar even with the injury

I really like vea. He had stud written all over him. I think great blue north had him ranked at #33.

I would love to see the pats draft him at 32, if he declares.

Pad level gets s little high, but it would be impossible to run inside on us with brown, branch, Valentine and vea at dt.

I am also interested in dt McDowell of Michigan state. At the beginning of the year, I had him at #3 behind Allen and Myles, however his year did not go so well and he has dropped into the early 20's. A couple of teams pass on him and a run on corners and he could fall to us like brown did a few years ago.

Another guy to keep an eye on at #32 is taco chaltham of Michigan. He has really come on this year and could fit perfectly into a de spit for us.

Check out @Vol_Football's Tweet:

Consistently beats the snap. Pause it at .1 and his almost out of his stance before the T even moves.

Haven't watched any college football all year. I know nothing about who's who or player rankings. I did catch the last 3 minutes of the Sun Bowl yesterday and QB Mitch Trubisky put on quite a show (Reports on his first 57 minutes weren't as glowing). His accuracy was pin point precision to every part of the field ...if only his receivers could catch the ball. I was blown away by this 3 minute display and thought this guy would be a great Pats project. (see how little I know).
Then I read he could go #1 to Cleveland.
At least I have good taste :)
Mitch Trubisky or Jimmy G? Pats may need a new trading partner. My only issue with Jimmy G is his slight body that may not survive NFL beatings (I thought this before he took his NFL beating and didn't survive).
Looking at Trubisky's college career...few opportunities before this year which has to scare NFL teams hoping to see sustained excellence. It'll be interesting to see how the Browns move forward in the QB dept....slow rebuild or NFL ready (Jimmy G)

Then last night, I caught 15 minutes of the Orange Bowl and one discussion was the possibility of 4 RBs going in the 1st round.....very unBelichickian. Will the success of Elliott and Dallas' dramatic elevation in ranks lead to draft tactic changes this offseason with GMs valuing RBs more than past years? Monkey see monkey do?

To all you draft junkees, I look forward to reading your assessments/predictions going forward now that the draft season is approaching. Thanks for the effort and passion. Neophytes like myself appreciate your efforts. I secretly hope Jimmy G gets traded off for a premium #1 pick just so I have a reason to be more invested in the draft process. If Jimmy G stays, I guess my consolation will be the SB parade in Boston. Maybe Johnny Gomes can give a speech

Jake butt tearing up his knee for the second time last night, probably means he lost 1-2 rounds in the draft.

I was never thrilled with him as a top 35 pick, but at 60-75, the value begins to line up for me.

Hope he gets well. Hate to see guys get hurt in the last game of the season with so much on the line this spring.

Hi guys.

I'm Baaack!!! :)

Just starting to watch some tape today. Starting with Derek Barnett (think i'll try to do EDGE guys first).

Saw this gif of Barnett in coverage from Mike Mayock. Pretty good for a 260lb guy.

*** Because of my disloyalty and absence, please forgive me if I post anything you've already seen.

Any and all views are helpful!

Barnett is a guy I can't make up my mind on. His production is fantastic and seems to play a very cerebral game.

Maybe it's due to his patience that I keep wondering if he will be able to get to the qb consistently at the next level, but he seems to do everything well.

Seems like he is probably going top 10, but there are probably 25 guys that could end up with top 10 potential range.

I wouldnt take him top 10. I love his effort but he doesn't read the game very well and is too reliant on timing the snap. I think he'll be an effective to good NFL player, not convinced he's a potential pro-bowler.

Just watched Garrett too. Makes the game look easy but he's a little lazy. He's fine when the ball is in his space, but he's not a chaser. Give me Garrett with Barnett's effort and you'd have the perfect football player.

That's my feeling as well. There seems to be about 10-12 edge guys that could go in the top 70 picks that offer very different packages. Barnett seems like he could be a movable vrabel type piece, which some will value quite high, but I wonder if there are comparable players available later on.

A good player to have, but not someone I am giving up significant assets to acquire.

But that's just my early look.

The problem I have with Garrett this year is not knowing how much the ankle injury effected his game.

He was on every play last season it felt like, but he just never looked after the dirty hit on him.

I guess I have more patience with him, but it's not ideal that he looked more pro ready at 19 than 20.

Jake Butt has to be one of the most obvious Patriots picks entering a draft? We don't even need him for 2017.

Draft him in rounds 3-4 and stick him on PUP.

Harold Landry really puts me in mind of a more athletic Shane Ray who I really liked. Have given bim a provisional late 1st grade. Only two 2015 vids on DB but he was really fun to watch. Unfortunately he'd have to be a SLB for us and we've got some depth there with Nink, Van Noy and McClellin.

Also, Antonio Garcia intrigues me as a potential Solder replacement. Excellent size at 6'6"-7", good athleticism and pretty nasty (finishes blocks). Need to watch a bit more though.

Landry improved this year I think. He added a lot to his game, and I could see him as a Miller / Mack type of player. He had a few nice moments in the bowl game (pair of sacks and an interception). My complaint is that he too often seems to disappear, and that's probably due to his small size. As you say, he would be best at SLB, where he could use his athleticism to play in coverage and then shift down to the line for 3rd and long, etc. Van Noy and MClellin are playing well, but I wouldn't mind some dynamic depth there. How much longer does Nink really have? He's nearly 33 (Feb 1st), and we need some young blood.

Garcia has been on my radar, but I haven't gotten a chance to watch him. Any games you'd recommend starting with for evaluation?

I had him as a 3rd round and dropping honestly. I think most overrated him to begin with.

with the way the highly drafted TE's have mostly busted thats probably a good bet
