Carr OUT for the season

To me, it's clear.
They play the starters until the #1 seed is locked up.

You don't let what another team might or might not do dictate your strategy until they've actually done it.

It's NFL Football. Anything can happen to any team at the hands of any other team.
There's a better chance of something good happening at home.

Didn't we learn any lessons from last year?

I would rather the Pats beat the Dolphins next week..hate ending the regular season on a losing note..bad play off karma!
Go Pats! Beat the Dolphins!

Root HARD for the Chiefs the next two weeks.

Chiefs finish 2-0 and the Raiders lose at Denver then Wild Card Weekend will be Raiders (#5) @ Texans (#4)

Meaning, we'd be guaranteed to either play the Texans (#4), Raiders (#5) or Dolphins (#6) in the divisional round.

Interesting post.

I thought it was more important before Carr went down, now they could play the Raiders in Denver and it wouldn't make a difference, I just don't believe the Raiders can beat them without Carr.

Hmmm....

It's not a priority if Carr is out for the season because Oakland will lose to Denver and if they don't they will lose their 1st playoff game. And then, even if they manage to get to the AFCCG the prospect of playing them in Oakland without Carr doesn't worry me in the least. In fact it would be quite Karmic to beat them in the Conference Chamionship in their last game at The Coliseum.

You're assuming Oakland will lose to Denver - what if Denver has nothing to play for next week? Also, as the number 2 seed, you'll likely have to go through Pitt in the divisional, and Oakland may have to go through KC (as a division game anything can happen regardless of who's QB). Lastly, what's belichick's message to the team then? After spending the whole week preaching to them the importance of finishing, does he go back to them and say, "what i said last week doesn't apply anymore because Carr got injured?"

I wasn't aware that Belichick was talking about seeds to the team, I figured he was focused on the jets.

Health is the most important thing going into the playoffs imo, I'm not worried about the 1 seed.

When BB was talking about "finishing," I don't think it was just the Jets.

That's fine, and all of us seem to have a different opinion on this. It'll be interesting to see what BB decides to do.

I think Belichick will play for the win but it could backfire as Suh is a dirty son of a b.tch. I would play Brady for a quarter and then sit he and Edelman, Bennett, Chung, and Butler, all are banged up and the rest would help them. However imo the Patriots already have HFA because I don't believe Oakland can get to the AFCCG without Carr.

Either way, Go Pats

The bad news about getting no. 2 is potentially having to play the Chiefs or Steelers in the divisional. However, we'd have to play them in the championship game if we were the no. 1, so really the only major difference between 1 and 2 is having to play in Oakland if they win their next two games (Denver and the divisional).

Agree on Suh, and don't forget about cameron wake - he can bring pressure and one hit to brady could mean the end of our season

Miami has a lot of injuries, so think about this, if Denver loses tonight then Miami is in I think. Miami has nothing to play for next week then either.

If we played to win all the games last year and didn't get conservative and give games away we may have another SB ring right now.

What lesson is that? Last year the Pats started Brady in the final game and they ended up losing then and in the AFCCG. The year before they rested everyone in the final game at Foxboro vs the Bills and ended up losing then but won the SB. I'll take that option any day.

The Pats lost to the Bills the year before in the last game and went on to win the SB in grand fashion. I would rather see the Pats repeat that finish.

the main difference is as the 1 seed we will get an easier draw in rd 1 (mia, Houston, or oak without carr) if kc manages to win their division. If we fall to 2, youre most likely looking at facing both kc and pitt.

But in terms of home field, yes very unlikely we play a road game either way.

Come on man!
The game plan in that game was a mystery to even the most ardent Belichick supporters.
