SiriusXM NFL Radio reports the NFL is planning a "spring league" that will be four teams of veteran free agent players, set to begin in 2017.

Nothing I'd love to see more than broken down bodies battling it out, some of which are one concussion away from turning their brains into mashed potatoes..

Well, they'd better come up with something, because the colleges are not developing pro- style quarterbacks. They don't run pro sets, they don't read defenses, it's largely run first, pass second, etc. There is a crying need, in my opinion, for some type of developmental league. I don't care if it's here, Europe or the freaking moon. But, it's badly needed.

"I got this!"

Kind of like Steve Ballmer saying a few years ago, "we took out the start button in Windows 8 and you will LIKE it." Microsoft could do that in 1999 - no more. I think the NFL has similar hubris.

They need something to replace framegate coverage obviously...

They need something to replace the lost advertising revenue that is right around the corner. These guys are greedy beyond belief.

I can see this now - Fisher, Ryan, other coaches we kick around take this gig, then get fired?

That would have to hurt!

4 teams across the USA? Teams East, West, North and South?

Edit not sure of the hate. If it is non league affiliated, then some very rich and powerful people are sensing some weakness in the NFL product. For us NFL* haters, this can only be a good thing. This, if even marginally successful, can only lessen the NFL stranglehold and accelerate a day of reckoning, ...for RG especially.

I'm so sick of the greed. Just fix the product we all liked to watch way back before all the commercials, bad officiating and corruption in the league office. I don't need more of this ****.

We do need a developmental league. Cautiously optimistic. Not sure how I feel about it running during the offseason since the intent is for the players to catch on in the NFL, and if that happens, they'll already have recent wear and tear.
