Michael Floyd DUI Arrest Video Shows Him Passed Out at the Wheel (VIDEO)

No I'm sure that getting a DUI should be punishable by losing your job and a long jail sentence for attempted manslaughter. I have no problem with that as long as it's the consequence for EVERYONE who is found guilty of the crime. And of course I assume you yourself have NEVER driven under the influence of alcohol or drugs, since you are clearly such a paragon of virtue. It's a pleasure to share a message board with someone of you moral rectitude.

Is it really so far-fetched that someone could have gone their life without driving intoxicated? I mean, I'm a pretty heavy drinker and I'm in my 30s, and I can honestly say I haven't. It's a matter of priorities; if I go out drinking with friends, we either have a DD (unusual) or we take cabs (usual). I'm sure that's harder in rural areas, but it's never impossible.

On the contrary, I must've driven like 100 times legally drunk. Didn't realize 'til my early 20s, when I purchased a breathalyzer, exactly how sober you can be yet still be legally drunk. Maybe I just had a huge tolerance back then but yeah, that breathalyzer purchase mainly meant as a tool to pick up chicks at bars (worked great) caused some drastic changes for me.

And I actually do have a DUI. Was I driving? No. It was more of a BUI. Boning Under the Influence. But the key was in the ignition (in more ways than one ).

Sorry man. I know you're a pretty reasonable guy and I usually agree with your opinion, but there is no comparison here imo.

Yes 143 is worse than 80. Just as 180 is worse than 143. But speeding on an empty highway at like 3am in Missouri doesn't come close to a DUI.

Any Jets who've had DUIs? Same goes for them. Especially if they were as incoherent as Floyd was here. That is easily a criminal offense.

143 on a public road is every bit as dangerous as driving drunk. In both cases, you've given up any ability to react to your surroundings. You're pretty much just winging it up and casting your lot with fate, hoping that if anyone is unlucky enough to be around you they don't end up in the wrong place at the wrong time. It's the same thing, maybe even worse because you don't have to old "yeah... I was drunk" excuse to explain your appallingly bad judgment. Kid in the car is just icing on the cake.

Floyd couldn't talk, couldn't understand what was happening... the dude was basically a 2 year old behind the wheel.

Speeding at any speed isn't comparable.

The same punishment as anyone else. If it costs him more because he had more to lose, so be it.

It almost sounds like your suggesting that the rich or popular should get to pay for their crimes with money or public humiliation instead of facing legal consequences.

Which crimes/violations should get what punishment? Society/elections/legislators handle those decisions.

I'm pretty sure he's getting the public humiliation part out of the way right now.

BTW the 50th Anniversary of the jets only appearance is coming right up, we're building a float for the parade, you want to be on it?

So we have a combined 42 pages about the same topic...
He is gonna face his punishment and the Pats are gonna help him to get back on track. (BTW they are very good at it, see: Branch, Talib and others). The only thing we should worry about now is, that they make him ready to go out on the field as fast as possible and make some plays.

Cmon man. They both fckued up.

Going 140mph with a child in the car?? No justification for that.

He's trolling.

I have no problem with him having a different opinion.

But when he continually misrepresents the facts - - that's a completely different problem.

He continually frames it as merely speeding at 143 mph.

There was a CHILD in the car and a fully loaded semi automatic and the the police smelled marijuana - - gee what could go wrong???????? That is conscious child endangerment.

What Jetsfan79 is posting here on this subject (he may be a fine poster on others) is simply trolling. He KNOWS the case, he is pulling everyone along with his misrepresentation of this.

To be at least a little bit fair, his trouble before was back in college, 6 years ago. He's not necessarily Johnny Manziel.

I suppose but it looks like the guy's a problem drinker. Obviously, you want to keep him on a very short leash, make sure he's committed to getting clean before giving him any further contracts, and cut ties immediately the moment he backslides.

Let's hope that this is the wake up call.

Let's hope Larry Fitz is right that this guy has some character. Let's hope Floyd realizes after this incident, "I have a problem. I nearly derailed a promising career. The Patriots just gave me a second chance. I know that they won't give me a third chance. I'm in a positive environment now. I'm going to get the help I need and not blow it."

Wishful thinking maybe, but who doesn't love a good redemption story?

wow...dude was toasted...didn't even drop his name...how about "I'm Michael Floyd, just played a game tonight against the Chargers and I'm exhausted, must have dozed off".

It doesn't appear in that video that he even knows that he's Michael Floyd

And I'm only half kidding

It looks bad, unless there is something more that we are not aware (maybe a bad combination of meds + booze) that let him in this condition, when a guy gets to this level of intoxication he definitely has a drinking problem because a guy that drinks occasionally don't drink that much unless it's a celebration, not a regular sunday night on his way home.

And when a guy has a drinking problem at this level to get completely wasted, his body is a mess and can't perform at a professional level, his muscles will take more time to recover, he will be more prone to a muscle strain, his joints will complain for a simple task like climb a stair. I hope I'm wrong and he can be that explosive receiver he was in Arizona because I have always been a fan of him.

Yesterday I made a couple of jokes about the video and after sleeping on it I kinda feel a bit differently.

I now find it sad and disturbing on a number of levels.

I have no idea if hes an alcoholic but clearly Floyd struggles with controlling his consumption of it. I have no idea if its a deeper emotional, psychological issue hes trying to suppress or what but I don't think its purely stupidity (part of it for sure - and selfish which is an action typically found in alcoholics). There is something else going on. I know people that once they get into social situations they can't stop drinking. Its an anxiety that for them, alcohol is a coping mechanism. That may not be his issue as there are many different root-causes of alcoholism and different types of it. Point is he needs to figure it out and quick before he ruins his life and other's as well.

If the Pats want to do right by this guy I hope they are shoving a psychiatrist/councilor down his throat and forbid him from consuming alcohol while under contract. They need to help give him the tools be able to control and manage this. Once his playing days are over, its all going to be on him.

So it takes a ****ing national task force and six months to get video of someone hitting his wife, or find out details about domestic abuse. But this took about a week for a video to go public. #Priorities

I know it wasn't necessarily the NFL that had anything to do with leaking this tape (I'm not sayhing it wasn't). But doesn't anyone else find it fishy that when it is the Patriots **** leaks immediately?

Look texting behind the wheel is even considered more dangerous than DUI. I don't condone DUI, but part of the problem with deciding to drive while under the influence is that your judgment is impaired because you are under the influence.

Nobody should drive drunk, it is a terrible decision and puts yourself and others at great risk, but if you text while driving you are more of a danger than drunk people, so don't throw giant boulders if you live in a glass house.

Amen.

We should not minimize this like the Jetsfan is doing regarding Richardson.

He needs to serve his rightful punishment and then get long-term help. Hopefully, the Patriots can provide him an environment where that can happen.
