Watching the past few games it has been alarming to see the number of targets for Edelman (40% according to the stats from the Broncos game). All his passes come in tight spaces where he gets lit up. I am concerned that he will be able to hold up. He is one shot away from getting on the concussion protocol, even getting nicked would slow the offense.

I wonder if Floyd was brought in to take some snaps during the last few games so JE11 can be alive, fresh and healthy for the playoffs.

Just have him take it easy the next couple weeks. Don't rest him completely, but try and focus on Hogan and Mitchell more in the gameplan if possible.

Of course if we beat the Jets and Oakland loses to Indy, we could give him a week off in week 17 anyways.

We definitely need Michael Floyd for more than dept I hope he gets up to speed in our Offense he could potentially bring a lot to the table with his Huge catch radius.

I have not seen him lit up.
Every player is one hit away from concussion protocol.
If you play afraid of injury, you will get injured.

He will probably not be asked to return punts vs the Jets unless it is close in the 2nd half. I would hope so anyway.

I get what your saying OP, but you can't play afraid. If he gets hurt, he gets hurt. But he has a job to do in the meantime. Anyway, Tom Brady protects his WRs with ball placement a lot better than other QB's I could name......cough....Peyton "friendly fire" Manning....

My biggest worry with Edelman is not catching passes in traffic but fielding punts. In the last two regular season games, BB needs to audition candidates for this vital job. I'm sure Cy Jones will get another shot along with maybe DJ Foster.

Once the Jets are squashed he'll have two weeks off.

I think every fan on this board is concerned about the short/long term health of JE11.

We know two things.
1. He is TB12's binkie
2. JE11 will always take vicious shots that are cringe-worthy.

I stated in another post that I'd like to see more targets to MM, Hogs, Bennett and that was kinda happening a little bit yesterday.

I think its a gradual thing. The Hogs drop did not help but the more those guys get open and make plays, the more TB12 will look for them.

Maybe it is being afraid or cautious but I was thinking of it more from a statistical standpoint. Having 14+ targets per game especially in the slot is a very high number, 14 chances to get hit versus 7-10 in typical cases.

In the playoffs the gloves are off, use him on punts, special teams, backup QB, whatever is needed. I just want to get him there.

Cordarelle Patterson (sp?) is a FA next yr. Pats should sign him. KR/PR issue solved.

Has Edelman ever been injured on a punt return?

I share your concerns. With Gronk out a healthy Edelman is critiCal for playoff success.

Hopefully the Pats can idle him, and Bennett, down a bit as the playoffs approach and get them as healthy as possible.

The Pats are really relatively healthy for a team 14 games in.

Even without Gronk, if Bennett gets healed up, Edelman stays healthy, and Amendola is ready for the playoffs, Pats are in gr8 shape.

Now if they can get Floyd worked into the system.....

he does a pretty solid job of ducking hits, not taking the full shot quite a bit......he has been lit up a few times this year, but he's smart after the catch, too

thsi wouldnt be a problem is james white didnt drop so many damn balls.

Let's save Jules until we get the ball down 4 with 3 minutes to go in the SB. Then we know we will have him when we need him.

Its also about the play call. Every play call has progressions. The reason Brady throws a lot to Edelman and threw a lot to Welker and Moss is because they are open often when they are reached in the progression, and clearly because they are often early in the progressions.
If Hogan is the 4th progression on every play (obviously he isn't, that's an exaggeration) he only sees the ball if the first 3 are covered.
Welker was the perfect example, because the passing offense ran through him. He was an early progression almost all of the time, so if he got open, which he often did, he got the ball. You could be wide open as the 3rd option but Welker getting open as the first meant welker gets the ball.
