Blount pace to rush for most yards by a Patriot RB since 2004

The improved O line + a quicker lighter Blount (he was already pretty fast) has given us a season to remember. Add in that he has had a few impressive massive goal line power runs and LB has gone from filling a role to becoming a legitimate weapon. Good stuff.

Oh man, I hope he gets a Pro Bowl nod, but the competition is tight.

It'll hard to get past Murray, Bell, and McCoy. Not to mention Miller, Gordon, and Ajayi are competition as well. His 14 TD's sure can't hurt his case, though.

Why get the nod to something he won't be able to attend? :D

If he gets to 17+ TDs to leave him off the Pro Bowl would be a total diss.

Hes deserving. Hes had an outstanding year.

Blount has been good this year however he is not elite. His YPA (which is probably the most important stat) is at 4.1 which puts him at 18th.

However his ability to convert short yardage consistently and be a work horse (tied 4th/5th in carries) is something that needs to be mentioned. He has been hard to stop in goal line situations.

Also he is 17th currently in Yards from scrimmage (12th among RBs) which i think for a player is more important than total rushing yards though of course you need your RB to be able to to run or you have no running attack which defeats the whole purpose.

So when I tried to figure how good Blount has been this year I just looked at all the backs really and thought who do i rank ahead of him? Here is the list.

For sure ahead

Bell, Elliot, Johnson, Murray, Howard, McCoy, Ware

Probably ahead

Gordon (receiving skill puts him ahead though his YPA is worse)
Miller (low TDs but his goal line and short yardage numbers are good. His QB sucks so few chances)

Maybe

Freeman (Very good pass catcher and runner but lacks the ability to power the ball in pretty badly)
Ingram (Better when in there but can't take the work load Blount can which you have to consider)
Ajayi (Need to see more but looks promising)
Hyde (On a suck team so hard to know but he does pretty well)
Crowell (Same as Ingram)
Latavius Murray (Can catch some too but not overly impressive there)

That seems about right so i will stop there. So IMO there are 9 guys nearly certainly better and 6 that might be... So he has been somewhere between the 10th-16th best back this year IMO.

Thats about right. Blount is an above average RB.

In terms of Patriots RB seasons in the BB era I'd put him...

1. Dillon '04

.
2. Blount '16
3. Ridley '12
4. Smith '01
5. BJGE '10
6. Morris '08
7. LoMo '07

He'd be a 100% cinch if he was in the NFC. The AFC has a lot of good RB's this year, so we'll see. Hopefully they give him the nod over a guy like McCoy or Miller.

Antowain Smith was a huge reason why the Pats won the Super Bowl in 01. He did well in the playoffs in 03 too.

Agreed.

I think A Smith had a better career with the Pats but I think for a single season Ridley did a bit more.

Maybe's there's a $$ bonus in his contract for getting named to it............I know he has one for $100K for each 100 yards at 700,800,900,1000 yds etc.....

That's a good point.

We need to sit his ass on the bench. He's killing our salary cap. :D

I was never a huge fan of his until this season. It really is like watching a different player. Whether it is him, or the OLine, or both, I don't know. It isn't just OLine I don't think: he seems quicker and more decisive on his cuts, finding the little sliver of daylight and pounding through.

I am not the best at evaluating that kind of thing, but it looks like that to me...

For those that miss the master class in tap-dancing, maybe we should bring Maroney back!
