Report: surgery for Gronk

Poor guy barely ever catches a break from a football standpoint. He could have been the GOAT at his position if not for these injuries. He may still be, but doesn't look like it. Still, if there is one advantage to the team for him being hurt all the time, it's the fact that the Pats learned to play - and win - without him. Bennett is no slouch, and now he will have a much bigger role. Many of you guys thought he was underutilized anyway. Now he will get his touches. The Pats are probably still the favorites in the AFC.

Too brittle. This news's tough. How much guarantee money does he still have left in his contract?
There hasn't been any guaranteed money in his contract since 2014. There is currently $6 million in prorated bonuses left to hit the cap. It's currently scheduled to be $2 million each of the next three seasons, or it could be $6 million next year or $2 million in 2017 and $4 million in 2018 if he does not play out his contract.

He should have never made the trip! He injured himself on that bomb. He reinjured it. Now this offense has no gronk. They have always depended on him. Now it's gonna be all wrs and some bennett but he ain't gronk.
But if he injured it vs denver you would be okay ? How can you predict these things in a violent game? Should we keep brady/bennett/edelman out till playoffs ? After all , they are also hurt .

Huge loss...

The offense will not be as dynamic of course, yet if there is a silver lining it is that the weapons on offense in 2016 are superior to what they had in 2013 when Gronkowski was lost with an ACL.

Back injuries are no joke. Ughhh. I really hope these wrs can step up and make plays.

Derby had 4 weeks at the beginning of the season to show something, he didn't.
Tell me what tight end aside from Bennett is currently on the roster who is just as good as Derby or better.

Didn't think so.

Contrary to popular opinion these days, sometimes bad things happen and IT'S NO ONE'S FAULT! He got hurt. He's great, but he's injury prone. He's not soft, the Pats didn't mistreat him and things just happen.

Well brady's gonna have to spread the ball around. It wouldn't be as terrible if w knew our defense could get stops.

Jules has not been the same this year. We have to rely on bennett and amendola more now.

For those who are killing the pats for playing vs the jets.

Sounds more like he should sue MGH. If he was cleared by the medical staff (run by Price and MGH) there is nothing that BB or anyone else in the organization did wrong.

Except why the hell were they sending a 265 pound TE who was recovering from a puntured lung and couldn't even get on a plane 8 days earlier twice on long bomb patterns? It was nonsensical. BTW, one of those two plays was the same type of fly pattern he reinjured his elbow a few years ago. "Hey, let's send him out on fly patterns and watch the guy crash". It's a bit foolish twice now when he is just coming off injury. It's not like he is a WR. The dude falls like a ton of bricks. Play with fire and you get burned.

Ih they had mistreated him he would have the same injury over and over again. That's not the case.

Boom! All those people upthread saying it was the Seattle game. I'm still blaming Brady and McD for bombing it deep to him.

So he was just afraid of flying 8 days earlier?

And it was merely a coincidence - - just like it was a coincidence when he injured his elbow against the Texans a few years back in his return game from previous injury.

These coincidences are amazing!

When you bring a 265 pound TE back from injury, you don't immediately throw him into multiple fly patterns. Look at how he injured his elbow in January 2013 against the Texans - - same deal - they made him go out deep. Dude falls like a ton of bricks - he's no WR ballerina.
