Given Gronk and him missing what it seems to be at least a few games 4+ a year..we need another TE. And seeing him go off today just shows me that he should be at the top of the list.

(Marty is also hurt but came back in...guy is tough as nails)

After HT it's him imo. Guys a beast, he's tough been battling through injuries, makes plays, lock him up.

The only issue it seems like both of those tight ends are hurt all the friggen time. But I would like him on my team anyday.

I just wonder how much $ you allocate to a 30 year old TE. I honestly don't know the answer to that.

Marty really has only missed a lot of time once with Chicago (4 games IIRC) ..he missed like 4 games with Dallas in 4 years there

Yeah age is 1 issue..but hopefully he likes it here enough to take a bit less

Malcom Butler should be another issue. Had a rough one today. I wish he was two inches taller. How much's he worth?

I think it depends on what Marty considers "long term". At his age and position, I think 3 years is "long term". If he's looking for a 5-yr deal or something crazy, it might not work. I don't know that he's Amendola-like in that he would keep letting him restructure his **** just to make it work here, especially knowing that he'll always be #2 on the TE depth chart with Gronk around.

His importance to this team, given the drop off to what would be behind him, can't be understated. They did a lot of things right in weeks 1-4 with no TB and virtually no Gronk, and he was a big part of that working. They've been missing that - and openly were looking for it in a variety of ways with Ballard, Chandler and others since Murderer - and they found it. They can afford it, and I think with the importance the team places on that position it's worth blowing out the budget to have the most elite and versatile TE tandem in the league. Pay the man.

why not pay him if they are really 60 million under the cap. 5 or 6 million per wont hurt

It's vital, he's a beast and Gronk has a new injury every week these days.

I wouldn't give him any more than 3 years though, preferably 2 years.

I would rank him second next to Hightower (not counting Butler because he is a RFA).

I'd try and sign him to a 2-3 year deal worth 6-7m/year.

This is the kind of thinking that has led most to believe that it was simply a formality in terms of locking up Collins, Jones, Butler, etc.

It sounds good in theory, but Belichick isn't likely to change much regarding his evaluation, method, offer, etc. We'll have to see what he offers Bennett. I hope he stays.

It's here or Seattle. Bro is out there so that's a draw I imagine.

As a recent tweet suggested, Bennett is just thrilled to be on a team that's just won 9 games- something he's never ever done before.

I don't think there will be too much trouble on either side, coming to terms on an extension.

I never though it was a formality. Got laughed at for it but no biggie. BB signs who he wants to sign and who wants to stay here not just for money.

Age does come into play..so yeah it's tough

Those two TDs really weren't on him...well i mean they were but his height hurt him. He was in great position for a lot of those catches on him..just no luck or mistimed his jump a bit

6-7m a year? is bennett a moron? garbage like charles clay are getting 10m a year. zach ertz gets around 9m a year...

He's going to get at least $11 million a year, that's with a hometown discount.

Price of the position, look at all these guys (most signed recently) on $10m+ a year, if i'm Butlers agent i don't even pick up the phone if the offer is anything under $10m a year.

Who on that list you think butler's better than? Byron Maxwell and who else

It's not about being better than it's about the market and being a number 1 corner and being paid like one if you don't do it someone else will.

The Pats have no leverage (unless Butler wants his money 1 year earlier) you either pay him or he plays out his contract and someone else does, Cam Newton and Andrew Luck aren't better than Tom Brady but they had to get paid or they would leave and someone else would pay them, same with Derek Carr coming up, same with Butler.

The Patriots don't have to pay him but he doesn't have to take anything less than market value.

He's better than Revis for sure, Revis is a corpse out there, he's also better than Carr.

True but let's not forget whose the gm. I would pay him but idk if he's worth what the market dictates but your right. He wants to get pay and rightfully so.
