Re: Dillon would only return for Pats....

Thanks for the memories CD! And d%#*!@t, you SHOULD'VE asked for the ball! I don't understand what happened to the run game in the second half of that game either.

Re: Dillon would only return for Pats....

And actually, that's really not what he said. What he said is he is DONE. He knew it, we knew it, the only ones who weren't ready to know it were his agent and a handful of die hard fans. After this, even they should know it.

Enjoy the golf course and playing with your children Corey.

Re: Dillon would only return for Pats....

Hey Corey, careful what you wish for. Had you been with the Pats from day 1, recent history suggests you might have been looking for the big dollars by now. So maybe things happen the way they do for a reason -- you came in and reached the pinnacle, and you're going out with grace and loyalty to a fan base that feels it for you too.

It was a pleasure, from all of us...

Maybe 5 years ago nobody anywhere would believe this next sentence would ever be written, but...

Yeah, the world needs more Corey Dillons! (and Bruschis, and Vrabels, and...)

Re: Dillon would only return for Pats....

Best of luck CD! The Pats will miss your hard nosed, kick ass style of play!

Re: Dillon would only return for Pats....

The most interesting part of the article is where Corey implies that he wasn't injured in the 2nd half of the game and could have gone for the Pats.

If Corey wasn't, in fact, injured, that makes the whole series of downs after Graham's 29 yard reception that got the Pats to the Colts 29 look even worse.

Re: Dillon would only return for Pats....

I knew the playcalling issue was coming.

Okay, hard to read what CD said, and not think "damn! If we could have that back..." But we can't. I mean, speculate away... I just feel drained when I go to wouldacouldashouldaland.

Re: Dillon would only return for Pats....

asside from maybe Brady.....Corey's 1600 yard season was the best thing I have seen in this great game of football. It is the best single season rushing performance in Patriot history....It was solid physical football, wearing out the opposition on a game by game basis. and those two playoff games were as good as it gets. A guy who was as good a runner as corey saw the playoffs for the first time and stepped up his game and carried this team thru the playoffs. The game vs the colts when he was dubbed clock killin dillon was easily one of the best single man performance in playoff history (no bias here).

Thanks Corey for the memories and not just the ones in a pats uni because those 200 yard plus games you had were a blast to watch as well. Corey you brought everything to the RB position that I enjoy watching. I will take the physical style Corey played with over the finness of say a Barry Sanders any day.

It case you guys cant tell Corey is my favorite back ever and he was one of them even before he came here...1600 just put him up there all alone. or even the day we traded for him

That was just talk," Dillon said. "I was never getting on an airplane. I don't even like to fly. You think I was going to blow off my tee time and fly somewhere?

Love that quote.

Re: Dillon would only return for Pats....

Well, the Colts were selling out to stop the run so I don't know if running the ball would have changed the outcome anyways. Maybe not getting an unthinkable 12-men in the huddle penalty late would have helped our situation.

But I still think the offense was in a no-win situation in the 2nd half. With a big lead this offense goes neutral and tries to protect the ball, not necessarily score a lot.

I was really ticked off that we weren't running Corey in the second half of the game. But it was a pleasure to have him in NE.

One of the major coaching blunders in that game is that Indy dictated what our offense was going to do in the 2nd half...and we played right into it.

Re: Dillon would only return for Pats....

Corey Dillon has just announced that he is a candidate to play ONLY on the Patriots "Shadow roster". He thinks he could still get 800 yards a season if called on. But he would be totally uninterested in doing it, for some losing team. It is just now worth it to him, to risk the potential injury.

But he would come out of retirement, IF AND ONLY IF, the Pats needed him on another Super bowl jaunt. He, in effect, admitted he would responde to the "Sahdow roster" emergency late night phone call...

If the Pats run the ball three times from 1st and 10 at the Colts 29 with 4:39 left, then they have a good chance of running the clock down to the 2 minute warning, or forcing the Colts to use their time outs. The other thing it does is give the defense time to rest. If the Pats got a 1st down, then the game would have been over because it would have been unlikely that Manning and the Colts would be able to get down field in under a minute.

Re: Dillon would only return for Pats....

Candies and nuts, my friend.

Richpats - If the Pats DON'T get the 1st down, then they still have run time off the clock OR forced the Colts into using their time outs. All 3 items work in the favor of the Pats.

The penalty took that strategy out of play though. The Pats did need the first down, but no way they were going to get it running the ball 3 times.

Re: Dillon would only return for Pats....

blaa, blaa, blaa............... water under the bridge at this point.

Corey, you were the man. Thanks for the wonderful memories and here's hoping your next stop will be in Canton (as a Patriot). I'm sure I speak for many a Patriot fan that.............. if (god forbid), it came down to it and someone had to get on a plane to fly up here and "pound one in" on 4th and 1, there's no one we'd trust more.

Good luck on the course, and thanks.

Yeah we know - he was just pointing out the scenario.

Me ? I refuse to think about what could have been.

All I know is that one team wanted to win and the other team didn't want to lose. Usually the former comes out on top
