It just struck me looking at this list, but who's the only guy NOT holding out in this group?

22. Brady Quinn, QB, Browns: Unsigned.

23. Dwayne Bowe, WR, Chiefs: Unsigned.

24. Brandon Meriweather, S, Patriots: Signed.

25. Jon Beason, LB, Panthers: Unsigned.

Granted, the hold up here is all about Brady Quinn, but still, Merriweather is the only one in the group not affected by the craziness going on at 22. He and the Pats should get a bit of credit for that.

Too bad they are busy being "too inflexible and fixated on precedent" to get a deal done.

I have a feeling that Meriweather should get the credit as I doubt we gave him extra money because of what Quinn might get. All I can say it "thank God" our guy is in. And Revis is still out

And Revis is still out

And with the San Francisco 49ers 15th pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots select Darrelle Revis out of Pittsburgh...out of New York...out of spite.

That would be hysterical. Doubt it'd happen, but it would be a priceless moment.

LOL, funny but it never happens; they always sign - however he's missing enough time that every day makes it less likely he'll have an impact this year. We're already through most of the "training camp" as they move on to part game game preparations next week.

Revis refusing to sign is idiocy, fwiw.

Well. . . . almost always sign. Revis' uncle (Sean Gilbert) didn't sign.

I think it was forethought by think front office knowing that the Quinn deal could screw up the deals around it, so it was in the Patriots best interest to get Meriweather signed early.

i don't foresee many quarterbacks next year soliciting Condin's services

We could wish, but as long as folks believe he'll get them $$$$, they'll sign. It's sad, I thought Quinn had more sense than this, utter foolishness.

we can also imagine qb's dropping in the draft just because a player has Condin. Of course, that depends upon how bad the Quinn situation develops.

Props to the FO and Meriwether - and I agree, probably Meriwether is to be credited for seeing the writing on the wall and saying "Nut-uh, I want to PLAY!"

Welcome to NE, Mr. Meriwether -- hope you're here a good long time!

You could see the Bowe holdout coming a mile away. He is represented by Ethan Lock and the last time they represented a first round KC selection, John Tait, it was the most acrimonious in Chiefs' history with Carl Peterson alleged to have blown up at Tait and his agent and resulted in a nasty holdout.

Scott and Bill are smart and cagey.

They seek to get the longest rookie contracts that they can negotiate. They seek to maximize the performance of players under those relatively inexpensive rookie contracts.

Unlike doofuses like the Cardinals, who always argue over relative pennies with their draft picks. The Pats give them a few extra rookie dollars to get them signed and into camp. Doing so, they get all of the years of performance out of their length of the rookie contract. What good does it do to argue and eventually triumph and negotiate an extra year if they waste the rookie year by missing camp?

In comparison the "winning" Cardinals experience, is to irritate the players, lose at least a year of service from the rookies. When they finally do get to camp their rooks have missed most of it, and their rookie season is a waste. They are also set back a year in subsequent second and third years et cetera. When they go to resign them, they must pay really big bucks to compensate; and frequently cant under any amount of offers, remove the bad taste. So their players sign elsewhere, sometimes for smaller dollars, just to be away.

That's a prescription the Cardinals ownership has perfected in their 109 years of professional football existence, some 22 years older than the National Football League that they joined after 22 years of pro ball. :bricks:

Of course, not all players (cough branch cough) honor the rookie contracts they sign.

According to today's Contra Costa Times the hangup between the Raiders and J Russell is that Russell wants his contact to ( the past 15 palyers selected Number 1 had this) to include a so-called skill and injury clause so that the guaranteed money is protected under any scenario --- injury, death, poor performance that leads to the players release. The Raiders want it covered under injury only and Al Davis was quoted the other day saying he/they aren't budging. Apparently if the deal only covers for injury the team doesn't have to fund the contract right aqway but if it's skills and injury they do even though the league has a fund that assists teams in such a situation.

Now Bowe has agreed to terms per PFT and ESPN.

That leaves Russell (#1). Revis (#14) and Quinn (#22) as the lone holdouts....While I may not agree, I understand both sides wrt the QB holdouts, especially a Number 1 pick. Can someone explain to me why Revis is holding out? I would think you look at what Carriker got from the Rams at #13, use that as the ceiling and use what Timmons got from the Steelers at #15 as the floor and work it out..........Are there other issues involved?
