When Brady and Ninkovich Return on Monday, Who Goes?

Steve Balestrieri

The Patriots will welcome back both QB Tom Brady and DE Rob Ninkovich on Monday. Two of the current members of the roster will have to be cut to make room

IR Brissett cut Foster or one of the backup Olinemen

I agree with Wiluven. I like Harbor and all but I see him being cut. Not to mention, I would like to see Derby play. Maybe E. Roberts will be released too and we can see more of Mingo.

If the Pats are seriously considering trading JimmyG, they probably don't want to put Brisset on IR, as it would prvent him from practicing with the team and stunt his development.

You wouldn't trade JAG until the end of the season, so it's not about this year. If Vollmer isn't going to return, the IR is an easy place to stash QB3 for a while. He'd still be able to return before the season was out, which would allow him to get more development time with the team.*

*I'm not saying that this is the play. I'm just noting that it could be done in a way that makes sense.

I agree that it's not likely that they'd trade Jimmy G till season's end. Regardless, losing 4 months of practice (2 if you designate him to return) would significantly stunt JB's development. If they don't think JB is the future, this isn't that big of an issue, but if they think he may be...

That said, the Pat's have gone with 2 QBs before.

If his injury's legit, sitting for a few weeks shouldn't be a problem. Also, he's not losing 4 months of practice, if you're bringing him back. He's losing 8 weeks, minus needed/desired recovery time.

I acknowledged that it would be just 2 months in my post if they designated him to return. That's still a significant loss for his development, and prevents another player from coming back. IMO, if they think JB may be the future, that is probably worth more than a bottom of the roster guy. We simply disagree on the value of practice in his rookie year.

I was clear about my position being based on the injury to QB3 being legit, so 8 lost weeks wouldn't really be 8 lost weeks. Not a big deal, though. Have a good night.

I don't see the Pats cutting Harbor. He's been very good with run blocking. I also don't see them cutting a O-lineman.

I wouldn't be surprised if Coleman was cut, particularly if he has another bad game.

Derby and Coleman are who I figure are destined to be cut.

I think Karras might go if Cooper is closer. Plus they might think he'd pass through waivers and land on PS.

Just based on preseason, Derby would be a tough one to pass through waivers

We have 6 safeties on the roster...I think you have to look at one of King, Richards or Ebner being cut...you can only have so many special teams only players

They only have 9 O-Line. I just don't see them opening themselves up to being short when they've had so.many injuries.

Yes, because having a top Special Teams unit won't win games for this team.

Ebner and King are two of the top Special Teamers.
Richards is not a special teams only guy. He's a top reserve behind McCourty, Harmon, and Chung.

Yea maybe...

Cooper was not good in AZ and has been perma injured. Regardless of how ready he may be, he hasn't proved himself on a skill level or in his ability to stay on the field. There's no way they are releasing anyone on that offensive line unless it'a to pickup another oline player.

I agree with you on Derby. He most definitely would not clear waivers and I feel he's a player the Pats don't want to part with.
