Unless there is a player, coach, or front office person posting incognito on here that I don't know about, "we" are not a part of the team. "We" do not sacrifice our bodies on the field during game days, "we" do not work out in the weight room with the team, "we" are not in the film room, "we" are not doing two a days or at practice, "we" are not making financial decisions for players that will impact their lives or the franchise, "we" are not getting paid by the organization, and "we" do not travel with the team for activities or games. "We" are fans. "We" are not playing the New York Giants tonight or three years from now, the Patriots are. We pay to see THEM do that on the field. I would think that even the players on the team would agree with this sentiment. We are fans... they are the team.

I could make some point about the entire industry of sports relying on irrational tribal loyalty to a cold, uncaring corporation much of which is driven by marketing departments and is designed to exploit that hot-blooded tribalism for material profit, thus making the use of a collective pronoun to denote that cold franchise not just an option for fans but indeed an intended and expected outcome.

But really the truth is we is just easier and less awkward to say
