I think you're on to something concerning the merger. There have only been a few dynasties in the NFL over the years, and the Pats are the first that isn't an original NFC team.

Green Bay (1921), Cleveland (1946), Dallas (1960), Pittsburgh (1933) and San Fran (1946) are all original NFC teams.

The Bills and Jim Kelley are given the royal treatment, but that's because they're an AFL team that came close but never won. They've taken over the lovable losers title that used to reside here.
Actually, as much as I hate to acknowledge it, the Dolphins were a dynasty in the early 70s and the Raiders certainly were from 1977-83 when they won 3 SBs. Both AFL teams.

Shula was an NFL guy who took over the expansion Dolphins after the merger was arranged (and annually beat the Patriots at the Orange Bowl forever).

Rozelle brokered the deal behind Davis' back, as it was clear that Al was never going to overlook or forgive the NFL for its actions and behavior in the sixties, particularly against the AFL (why would anyone with a conscience?). So, Rozelle was #1 on Davis' **** list from then on and he knew it, and cut the Raiders some slack because let's face it, he knew the NFL owners were scum too, he just did what he did to make the league profit, and he clearly succeeded.

Going along with the Raiders' indignation over feeling robbed by the immaculate reception (they weren't) was a way to appease them, and certainly directly led to the atrocity in '76. Anyone with eyes who saw it then is deluded if they do not agree that that Super Bowl should just be vacated. Raiders fans, like lots of fans, just see what they want to see. John Madden is a nice man, but tainted and illegitimate just begin to describe that season's result. Of course, Davis had no problem moving his team later, especially against resistance from the league.

An interesting coincidence, that the Raiders' title in '83 (with lots of ex-Patriots) was the last for the AFC forever, during which time the NFL owners were like pigs in ****, while (like always) neutral (or, real) football fans suffered.

WTF are you talking about?

The NFL controlling owners have been entrenched now for generations. Pete Rozelle was Tex Schramm's guy. The breadth of NFL loyalists has increased to include the Jets (most notably former executive Goodell) and Broncos [Tagliabue was not a good guy. He was compelled to slap Denver on the wrist for cheating which led to Super Bowls; and then declared that the Patriots "damaged the league" for their "role" in the Lisa Olson fantasies. Legitimate women in the industry, like Gayle (Granik) Gardner for example, worked too hard all their real careers to publicly make any criticism].

We were discussing NFL dynasties. I don't know WTF you're smoking, but it's Saturday night so I want some...

Clint Murchison. the oil billionaire, was the owner of the Cowboys and built the stadium in Irving.

The Dolphins and Raiders are not original NFL teams, and the poster was speculating as to why the Patriots are singled out for abuse by the league. The Patriots recent run is unprecedented in several respects; the railroadings and tangible penalties imposed against them by their own league is even more so.

I know. They originated as AFL teams. You posted something to the effect that all of the NFL dynasties have involved teams whose origins were as NFL teams, rather than AFL teams. My counter to that claim was that both the Dolphins and Raiders were generally considered dynasties at some point in their histories and both originated in the AFL. Jesus, do you even read what you write? Or, for that matter, what others write?

Thanks, and he had no problem with Tex, who was president of the Cowboys and the unofficial co-commissioner of the NFL.

Good point. And two of those Raiders' Super Bowls were legit. And like always, the league just wiped its feet on New England in '76 and dismissed us.

That was me that posted that. I don't know why I forgot about the Dolphins and Raiders, although I agree about the Raiders qualifying as a dynasty but not the Dolphins. I think you have to win at least 3 titles to be considered a dynasty.
