The NFL simply does not have enough money to afford things like monitoring and maintaining field conditions, treating officials like something better than garbage, providing some kind of pension to retirees, keeping a developmental league in Europe even though it loses a pittance to broaden exposure and awareness of the sport, and perhaps more importantly to provide opportunities for players, coaches, officials and others to work and learn and thereby improve the quality and safety of the game, etc. It's a fledgling, poor outfit that needs to now play the Super Bowl on an indoor baseball diamond (kudos, David Stern) and cut costs wherever possible to have enough to pay for $multimillion railroadings of their best team and player to protect the integrity of the game.
