Position change ? Seriously ? For a TE he's small (231 pounds), slow (4.94 40) and not quick (7.17 three cone).

Love him or hate him, he's a QB prospect.

I have no idea what could possibly make people think he'd be any better at any other position. He'd have to be a linebacker or a very unathletic tight end...there's literally no logic behind that.

As for love him or hate him, I'm on neither end. But I'm okay with the pick. I disagree with those who don't think QB was a pressing need, because yesterday morning, there was no QB2 on this week 1 roster. As for who the pick was, I'm confident that they took the top QB on their board, and ideally the top player on their board.

I don't want to get too far off-topic here, but I am against tanking in the NBA. The last team to win a championship with a #1 overall pick on his rookie contract was Tim Duncan and the Spurs in 1999. And that was partly because of injuries to David Robinson, otherwise they wouldn't have been in the position to draft Duncan. They were a good team who had a bad year due to injuries, then added the #1 overall pick, not your traditional bad team tanking.

The best players in the drafts are near the top, yes. But if they don't have proper teammates, their success will be limited. Yes, you can get good players, but it doesn't seem to do much for championships.
It takes the pressure off an organization, lets everyone accept losing as a good thing.

I think that came down to intangibles -- and if Cook didn't have red flags on his personality and leadership ability, he would have been off the board long before the Patriots' pick.

I don't know, the couple of game video I watched against somewhat upper echelon competition, he barely had time to turn around let alone process anything before he was under siege.

He had time at Florida and still made those poor decisions.

I watched him closely in college, and I'm a bit confused by the pick. Brissett grew once he left Florida, but I still have to think the Pats are planning on converting him to another position. Brissett is athletic but, as a QB, he had a hard time processing info pre-snap and got confused by what the defense was doing at times. If the Pats were going to pick a quarterback, I would have rather them gone after Cook than Brissett. That said, they need a back-up for four games then maybe they can try him as a TE project if they don't love what they see out of him at QB.

Funny, they didn't see that in the NFL.com draft profile. He has some bad habits, but they project him as an NFL starter with good coaching.

No offense, but you should try actually watching Brissett or college football before commenting and appealing to authority. If they saw an NFL caliber quarterback that can process info quickly, I'd like some of what they're smoking. He transferred from Florida because he wasn't going to be given the starting job (even though he was given extensive looks) and couldn't beat out the likes of Jeff Driskel or Treon Harris. He didn't get much better from there. I really don't see how a team managed by Belichick would have long term plans for him at QB.

I have mixed feelings on drafting QB, I was just addressing the Cook question. IMO it makes sense that the team that ultimately picked Cook was looking for a backup, not a starter who would set the tone for the locker room.

Then you shouldn't comment on people unless you're familiar with them. Otherwise you're just committing a logical fallacy. I'm employed too but, somehow, I've been able to get Saturdays off and have been able to watch the kid.

Different scouting reports will show you different things based on what the scout is looking for. In Brissett's case, you'll see one thing that's there in all of them: the ability to make plays with his feet. The reasons for that are twofold:

1. His OL couldn't protect him and he got pressured and hit A LOT (leading to hurried throws off his back foot... not good).

2. He couldn't go through his progression when he did get time.

That's Brissett in a nut shell. That said, unless this team is converting to the read option, which I doubt, then Brissett is not their type of quarterback. That's why I believe they may have a position change in mind for him once Brady gets back. This is based on what I've SEEN when I've WATCHED him at two different programs. Not based on what I've read when I had never even heard of the guy 48 hours before that.

Another appeal to authority. This is meaningless, especially since we've seen numerous instances where the "armchair scouts", if you will, were correct about a prospect where the teams were not. Their analysis is not infallible. We've seen this time and time again. Tell me what you liked about Brissett when you saw him. Be specific. What traits did he show as a passer that make you think he's a future NFL caliber quarterback?
