Still only get 1- IR-DTR though which I think is ********. Should be unlimited. Guy gets hurt but could come back but can't because the team chose to bring someone else back.. Basically punishing teams and players for injuries.

Uh what? Not sure if I'm an idiot but, I don't understand what this means. Does this mean there's no timetable you have to wait anymore...?

That's pretty cool, now if you lose a couple guys in training camp you don't have to make the decision in August on who you'll designate to return off of the IR. Now coaches can just put everyone on IR who needs to be on it, and then throughout the season they can measure everyone's progress and make a determination then with all the facts.

A great rule change, imo

No, it's still the 8 weeks, you just don't have to determine the guy is coming back when you put him on IR. Now, once during the season, you can tag someone who's already on IR as eligible to return once his 8 weeks is up.

Seems reasonable to me. Would still like to see it upped to 2 or 3 players though...

Definitely a smart change, though I think they should really allow more than one person to be allowed to return.

So, just to be clear, if you put a bunch of players on IR you pick one of those guys to come back after their 8 weeks is up? The rest remain on permanent IR?

Correct..

Needs to be unlimited.. It's punishing the team and players for injuries.
I could be wrong, but if teams were allowed to put an unlimited number of players on IR and re-activate them during the season, the rule would be misused. Just my opinion.

Teams could treat the unlimited IR as a defacto roster exemption by stashing healthy players away and activating them as needed.

In theory a coach could field an entirely 'new' 53 man team just before the playoffs.

Whatever NFL.

It would be good business for the NFL to add more spots since if a star player gets hurt since it would give that player a chance to return.

Exactly considering how violent the game is and the next play could be your last.

Except they still lose that player for 8 weeks if he is put on IR. So yes you are wrong.

Unlimited IR return after 8 weeks could result in many rookie "injuries" and team later deciding to activate IRed rook when starters & backups injured.

Potential abuse concerns aside* I'd like to see the league expand the # to 3 to see how it works out. Too many later 20-20 hindsight decisions made that result in inferior product on the field late in the season.

* I admit that BB would find the best way to game this system & piss the Hargbabies off.

I request that they make this more difficult to understand.

Just give it another couple months. The NFLNYJ front office will figure out a way.

I think you missed the point. Any good coach would stash as many players as they could on this 'unlimited' IR and activate the players they need down the stretch.

Eventually you would have coaches fielding very different playoff rosters which diminishes the importance of winning out the regular season.

Except any player that goes on the IR-DTR has to be on the final preseason 53 man roster. So a coach would have to cut other players he might not want to risk losing to do the scheme you are talking about.
