Nobody cares about the SB because the Pats aren't in it

No effing way the suits on Park Ave wanted the Pats in the SB, otherwise they wouldn't have conjured up a witch hunt, fined us and taken the #1 pick, and made Hochy the head ref for the Denver game (Denver is now 8-0 with Hochy IIRC) and had Clit Blakeman waiting in the wings for the SB.
Oh come on, no wonder they call us whiners.

The officials "Let them play" on both sides with pushing and shoving by both teams uncalled well past five yards. To boot, the two plays that went to 345 for review were both decided in favor of the Pats!

We lost that game because of our O-Line, three picks and Special Teams.

Let's not be naive. The NFL is about ratings and revenue. No SB would have generated higher ratings and boosted NFL franchise values more than an SB with the hated Patriots and the subplot of Brady vs. Goodell Redux, Director's Cut.

And, just to put an exclamation point on this, HSPN just ranked the Best SB's of all time and put the Pats in three of the top five: XLIX (#2), XXXVI (#4) and XLII (#5). There are 32 teams in the league. There have been 49 SB's with 98 different matchups. There is no way the league would not have wanted to see the Patriots in this game. Clayton: Ranking all 49 Super Bowls

Brady, the hated Belichick and the despicable Pats in this SB, of all SB's, would have been money in the bank for owners and league officials whose salaries are driven by things like ratings and the TV contracts they bring.

The NFL is, first and foremost, about "Entertainment." It might be a good time for all of us to recall lyrics that Judy Garland made famous years ago, I've added a new verse at the very end in bold:

A clown with his pants falling down
Or the dance that's a dream of romance
Or the scene where the villain is mean.
That's entertainment!

The lights on the lady in tights
Or the bride with the guy by her side
Or the ball where she gives it her all.
That's entertainment!

The plot can be hot, simply teeming with sex
A gay divorcee who is after her ex
It could be Oedipus Rex
Where a chap kills his father and causes lots of bother.

The clerk who is thrown out of work
By the boss who is thrown for a loss
By the skirt who is doing him dirt
The world is a stage; the stage is a world of entertainment!

It might be a fight like you see on the screen
A swain getting slain for the love of a queen
Some great Shakespearean scene
Where a ghost and a prince meet, and everyone ends in mincemeat.

The guy who was waving the flag
That began with the mystical hand
Hip hooray! The American way
The world is a stage; the stage is a world of entertainment!

The QB done dirt by Goodell.
The Team that everyone hates and a Judge in the NFL's face!
Will Rodger have to hand the Trophy to Tom?
The gridiron's a stage; the stage is a world of entertainment!

because the donkeys are going to get their asses handed to them (42-13), and the 1/2 time entertainment sucks big time.

The officials "Let them play" on both sides

Except for the first 3 drives.

Pats 1st Drive- Edelman interfered with, no call
broncos 1st drive- PI called on Ryan on 3rd down
Pats 2nd drive- Gronk blatantly interfered with on 3rd down, no call

If they didn't call the two on the Pats drives, they shouldn't have called the one on Ryan's, as it was no more egregious than the one's on Edelman and Gronk

I will watch the game and hope for another safety and a repeat of what followed after that.

There's been no hype in New England, but that's to be expected.

I haven't left this area, so I really can't speak for the rest of the country, but just media-wise, it's seems to be a bit weak in terms of hype.

At least when the Pats play, people watch just to hope that they lose. For them, watching Brady crash and burn is entertainment.

Watching Manning possibly get slaughtered in potentially his last game, against a small market team that's been pretty much under the radar for most of the season even when they had a possible undefeated streak, is just boring for the casual fan.

Yes Manning and Newton are FOOTBALL stars, but Brady is a universal figure. Hated, beloved, known for his marriage, whatever, from Iowa to England, people perk up when the name Tom Brady is mentioned.

No Tom Brady, in a year where he's been the star figure of the torment by the hands of the NFL, and the chance to give them a big FU at the Super Bowl in his home area and the chance to undoubtedly lay his claim as the undisputed GOAT and the excitement is tempered.

I'll be watching simply for Peyton to lose.

And to watch a lot of people get mad if Cam wins:)

I won't argue those facts, but my view remains that the game was evenly called on the whole. There was at least one potential Donkies scoring play in the second half where the Pats defender was making contact that I've seen called as PI two out of three times this year. I have neither the time nor the passion to track it down, but I said to my kid, "I can't believe they didn't call that. It's a touchdown if he doesn't shove him."

Carolina is a small-market team. Denver was probably small-market before Peyton.

From a ratings standpoint, the best matchup would have been Patriots vs Packers.

I sincerely hope your not suggesting that the Pats lost the game because of bad calls by the refs? Maybe you are trying to be efucational when it is not necessary, we all saw the same thing if we were watching the start of the game. Overall the calls worked out for both teams.

With another lost forehead will surpass TB with Superbowl losses but will have way less hardware(rings). I'm watching for this reason among many.

If manning loses hell have 3 sb losses

Yep, exactly. Another stat that I didn't realize was that we have a great record under the ref who had the NFCCG assignment. Go figure. Things shook out the opposite of how we'd have liked them in that regard.

Perhaps I misunderstood your wording, but Brady is 4-2 in Super Bowls, whereas Manning is currently 1-2, and would drop to 1-3 with a loss next weekend.

Sheesh. Thanks, I meant he would surpass TB with superbowl losses and have less rings making TB the clear better QB between the two

Absolutely. It'd be great to see Manning stuck on 1 SB victory out of 4 chances, especially after everyone keeps pointing out how he's now 3-1 in the conference championships over Brady.

Which inspired the best GIF of all time:

wvL3rKN.gif

That gif is awesome but the best gif of all time is the guy a the jaguars game!

I thought the best gif of all time was that Oprah gif o_O

What's the oprah gif?

The only people who are happy with this matchup are Panthers/Broncos fans and Goodell and his family.

lot of talk about broncos getting pummeled. Heard that before the AFCCG also. Would be shocked if its like the previous broncos superbowl.
