Bill Belichick "Under no circumstance would I underestimate Peyton Manning."

As usual, Bill offers a whole bunch of nothing while dodging rediculous questions from the media during his press conference. For us fans who really know how Bill operates, there are a few nice quotes in each Belichick interview, you just have to dig through alot of non answers and snorting to find it. While not answering some silly question about Manning, Bill says "Under no circumstance would I ever underestimate Peyton Manning."

Some people on these forums have questioned weather Bill will give Manning too much credit in his defensive game plan or not enough. Here is your answer Pats fans. I think that quote is the one genuine take Belichick had in his presser.

Well he's obviously right. You have to be realistic and look at the types of plays they're running with THIS version of PM, what he will see to audible to runs, what will make him audible to throw, but you prepare for him to play well, play the chess match with him, and trust your DBs to react to the ball if he puts some ducks up there.

BB is right. All us fans are predicting that Peytie Pie is all done and won't be able to do anything, etc., but he wants to win as badly as we do, if not more, since this will probably be the last time he gets this close to the SB. PM has nothing to lose and will play accordingly. We also have the Bronco's D, the altitude and potentially the refs to deal with (I was not happy to see the Broncos have not lost a game Hoculi has reffed in a long time, if ever). We've got to go into this with a great game plan and execute it well, or we'll be going home. That would stink. Thank goodness for BB!

Peyton showed both his guile as well as that he can still throw the ball at least a few yards downfield on Sunday when he took his dive, got up and made that completion.

Under no circumstances would anyone in their right mind, who knows anything about the NFL underestimate Peyton Manning. BB is, as far as I know, in his right mind and has more NFL knowledge in the fingernail of his little finger than I have in my entire body.

So, duh!

Broncos are also 0-3 when allowing more than 24ppg

I think BB does still have a ton of respect for Peyton and his ability to produce.

It's kinda like guarding Michael Jordan when he was with the Wizards. You respect him but you don't really fear him anymore.

If Bill thinks Peyton is crap and Peyton goes out and plays like crap, is that underestimating him? I would think not, and therefore I agree that Bill would not underestimate him.

The same Bill Belichick who calls the worst offenses in the league 'explosive' and 2-10 teams 'competitive and hard to beat'.
Genuine, nah. Just not his style to even imply a negative about an opponent.
He will gameplan for Manning 2016, not Manning 2009.

Did Manning want to win all those other playoff losses?
Does wanting to win overcome a lack of talent?
I agree BB cannot take any opponent lightly, but this one just isn't good.
Besides he has to gameplan for what they will do, not how well they will do it.

60% of a Peyton* in his prime, is better than most QB's in the game right now.. he may not have the same arm strength as he used to have.. but he knows the game, clock management and a whole bunch of tricks..

I think BB has a lot of respect for manning .Yes he does offer some fake adulations for players but with manning you can see he gears up for a challenge always. The game where james sanders intercepted manning in foxboro , BB was miced up and you could see its a big deal for him going against manning . Iam sure he sees manning a threat to get the broncos into the right plays more so than kubiak and oswelier, physical limitations not withstanding.

I think what's important to distinguish is underestimating his arm versus underestimating his head. Peyton, for all his physical issues, is still more than capable of taking advantage of you if you make a mistake, because it doesn't take a rocket arm to get the ball to a receiver who is five yards away from any defender.

But I doubt Belichick is gameplanning as though Manning can consistently make all the throws he's been able to in the past. That would be a mistake also. He just knows that if his defense isn't disciplined and doesn't do their job, Manning is still more than capable of picking them apart, one wide open Emmanuel Sanders at a time.

....and at 40 years old he hit a season high 45 points and STILL averaged 20ppg.

Peyton can still be a functional QB. He just can't carry a team consistently anymore. Can he do it for one game? I guess?

It would be foolish to under-estimate Manning when it comes to his mind and throwing short and intermediate passes. I would not worry so much for when Manning is asked to throw deep.
