Parallels With The 2004 Season

I mentioned this last night and then TommyBrady12 expanded upon it, and now I've expanded on that. I know it's not really meaningful, but I think it's still fun to think about:

In 2004:
-Pats are the defending SB champs
-forced to deal with significant injuries (Ty Law and Poole out, Seymour missed AFCDG)
-lose to a bitter conference rival in the regular season after long winning streak (21 games)
-head to AFCCG early because of snowstorm
-beat said conference rival in playoffs on the road in the AFCCG
-go on to win super bowl

In 2015:
-Pats are the defending SB champs
-forced to deal with significant injuries (you know)
-lose to a bitter conference rival after long winning streak (10 games)
-head to AFCCG early because of snowstorm
-play said conference rival in playoffs on the road in the AFCCG
-?

Could be missing some... Anyway, hopefully the next two come to fruition too!

-The top seed won a bunch of games by the skin of their teeth.
-The top seed barely beat a wild card team despite the QB playing with a shredded throwing shoulder.
-Despite solid scoring defense in that divisional game and a great rep league-wide, the top seed's pass coverage was very poor and the team was fortuitous not to be exposed primarily due to said throwing shoulder.

I'm sure someone had to have said the Patriots were "ripe for the pickin'" this past week.

Just to add to point #3: Both years they lost to that bitter conference rival in large part due to an injury to their most valuable skill position player. 04 was Dillon, this year it was Edelman.

I never knew that. I assumed that the longer you're there, the more you acclimate to it.

That's what I initially thought too, and that is true if you're talking weeks. But apparently at first you're ok then you'll have more trouble over a few days.

Do we have any Broncos player saying that after the game earlier this year?

I had been drawing comparisons between the defenses. Strong front 7's, stud safety, and cb concerns for some time on both teams, but both ended up with adequate cb play and great overall d. Though it remains to be seen if this can come through when it matters.


Both oc and dc are hc candidates for the following year. Maybe we see another triple hug?

Both 2004 and 2015 featured playoff games against Andy Reid teams, up by 2 scores midway through the 4th, and then seeing Reid's "2 minute drill" in action. Then both scoring a TD with 2 minutes to go, then onsides kick attempt recovered perfectly by the tight end (Fauria and Gronk).

Only real difference so far besides the playoff round is the lack of Chunky Soup during that "2 minute drill".
