They you're rolling your eyes about something other than what I actually posted.
I used to have the exact same perspective of "always" learning from the mistakes of others. In some instances, that is a wise course of actions with things that cause physical harm, the harming of others, addiction etc. That said, the application of such a conservative approach to the entire range of life deprives us of our greatest opportunities to exceed our perceived limitations and broaden our perspectives. In order to become our true selves, we must challenge conventional thought, learn and grow from our failures and soar through our triumphs. Anything less isn't truly living.
For future reference, it is safe for you to assume that when I apply to an important life subject, I have spent considerable time considering it deeply, and from a variety of perspectives. Obviously I am wrong sometimes, but it certainly would never be in ways as dense as the interpretation you came to.
Well, here's where you went wrong:
"That said, the application of such a conservative approach to the entire range of life ... "
No one even implied this. Everyone will agree that we (should) learn from our mistakes, take risks, push ourselves, etc. But you said that not making mistakes and simply being able to learn anyway isn't "living."
