Semi-OT: Tom Coughlin expected to resign Monday

Other than his teams dishing out two days of depression my way I have no issue with Coughlin. Good luck to him.

Three teams lost overwhelming numbers of player-games to injuries this season: the Ravens, the Giants and the Patriots. Only the Patriots have reached the play-offs. If not-being-as-good-a-coach-as-Bill-Belichick has you forced to resign, no one (except BB) is safe!

If true, that's two down. Will Jerruh make it three?

Jones wants a 'yes' man (he tolerated a guy like Parcells after multiple losing seasons and pushed Jimmy Johnson out the door), and Garrett does not make waves. Remember, Jones is the same guy who pointed to franchise valuation as his metric for success (after extended mediocrity).

Color me surprised if Garrett get the boot, as last year got them to the playoffs and close to the finish line and there have been a bunch of injuries to key players this year as excuses.

EDIT: Apparently, Jones is not looking for a change (just searched the issue for a statement).

Don't forget that Jerrah chose Terrell Owens over Parcells. Parcells wanted him gone. Jerrah didn't. Parcells left instead.

Not that they will change things because Garrett is his perfect puppet, but no way would Coughlin go there. Coughlin at this point would only go to a place with all the pieces in place (or mostly so) and an owner that isn't meddlesome.

Hell no. BB/TB can never revenge.

Coughlin will get into the HOF, and it will be deserved, not just for his 2 SB wins in NY, but also for what he accomplished with the expansion Jaguars.

I agree. He is 12th all time in wins, with 2 rings as head coach. He took the expansion Jags to a conference championship game in its second year, and again 3 years later. Coughlin has very similar numbers to Parcells, with a better postseason winning percentage. Guys on that list like Chuck Knox are more comparable to Schotty, with very good regular season numbers and losing postseason records with no rings to show for it. I expect in the Hall calculus, those rings matter a great deal.

And while he has been the bane of the Pats' existence in championship games, think back about 20 years ago when the Pats fans were dreading facing the Broncos in the playoffs and this 9-7 expansion team did the Pats the greatest of solids by bouncing them from the playoffs and paving the way for a trip to the Super Bowl.

Fixed it.
Yknow when hearing rhat Hendu passed away last weekend remembering his playoff heroics brought back some great memories.

....and one really, really, really bad one that never will go away.

Tyree and the WW drop are right there with it.

The good news is the Chicken Little "Oh! No! The Giants might get into the playoffs and beat the Pats again in the playoffs!" stuff is over.

True but you have to admit that no team has given us more fits. I think a lot of that has to do with coughlin. Just look at the Carolina game - Giants had no business playing on the same field as an undefeated team and nearly knocked them off. They play hard when challenged, and that is because of coughlin' ability to rally the troops.

Well, given the way things turned out the last two times, I can't blame people who felt that way.
