It's my birthday today. 55 years old... and all my parts starting to come off warranty. LOL

Born in Houlton, Maine... grew up in Camden, ME... as a kid, I NEVER got a birthday slash Christmas gift (thanks, Mom, Dad, and relatives)... then left Maine for Long Guyland in 1986 and met...

...Mrs. Rover. She's a Mets fan, and a Jets fan... and yet still I adore her. She gave me two great sons, and a life full of laughter, fun, and the unexpected. (hey, she's a ginger... they're craaaaaazy!!! LOL)

For my birthday, I'll be enjoying her company at dinner out, then a nice cigar and some 12 year old scotch. How is that not a great birthday? (no need to answer... it's a rhetorical question).

Anybody else have a birthday around the holidays? If so, 'fess up!!

What a way to celebrate, enjoy the stogie and hopefully have a victory one to puff Sunday night.

I work with a guy whose birthday is December 25… Seems like a real bummer--he's gotta be missing out on some loot

My sister, God rest her soul, married my brother-in-law about 15 years ago. He's Jewish, and asked her to convert. So she did. She then got pregnant with my niece... who was born...

December 25th.

My brother in law said, "I feel like somebody's trying to tell me something." LOL

My mom's birthday is the 21st but I always keep her birthday gift separate from her Christmas gifts, and definitely not something "Christmasy"

You're not alone. Mine was the 19th. My wife and I went out to dinner with the kids and then we came home and watched a movie and then I fell asleep LOL. It was a quiet night.

How old are your kids? Do they get you presents or make cards? I used to love that stuff when our boys were little. Of course, my youngest son blew me away one year (he was a teenager) when he bought me a Patriots monogrammed flask and set of shotglasses. My oldest now usually gets me something with which to FILL the shotglasses. LOL

Good stuff. Mine aren't as young now, 16 (he's a junior in high school) and 20 (she's a sophomore at college and home for the holidays). I got cards from both with hand-written notes, which are the best part to me anyway

Yup. And I got it in this morning. Sorry if too R rated delete.

LOL... hey, I got no problem with YOU saying anything. But I'd have a big problem if I did. Mrs. Rover might somehow confuse me...

...with Bill.

My wife's birthday is tomorrow, already have her gift, then dinner. Our anniversary is on the 5th so it's a pretty active month with the dinners and the gifts.

Happy B-day oldrover and I for one don't think you are too old. Is that single malt or blended 12 yo scotch?

New Years Day for me. (I'll be 56.) It's really easy to calculate in retrospect how old I was when ...

When people were in the Y2K panic, I observed that my 40th birthday would be Jan 1, 2000. My copy editor -- who was also the former editor of a well-known humor magazine -- immediately shot back "Or perhaps you'll turn minus-60."

Besides the awkwardness of having a birthday close to Christmas, there's the fact that everybody parties the night before, and also that restaurants tend to close. Not an ideal choice, but it beats the alternative of not being born.

My father used to complain that I'd been born some too hours late to be a tax deduction. I took this in good cheer until it turned out that I'd also been born some hours too late to avoid registering for the draft ...

Happy Birthday @oldrover. Enjoy the cigar and scotch. I have a real Cuban Cohiba Siglo IV that I had left over from my wedding (gave them out as presents to my groomsmen, along with bottles of Glenlivet 18), but I've yet to smoke it. Maybe I get a reason on Feb.7th?

Happy Birthday All.

Just know that although your presents may be wrapped differently they still came from the same Christmas fund. So you are literally getting 1 less present for christmas.

JK.

Old Rover, I drive through Houlton about twice a year. My mother lives up in the county.

When I was a kid we used to get October off from school to go pick potatoes. I used to earn a whopping 10 bucks a day for picking 15-20 barrels of tots a day. hahaha. Good times.

Happy Birthday to all the December "babies." I do not have the Christmas/birthday gift problem as my birthday, June 12th, is almost exactly 6 months before Christmas. My sister thought this was very lucky growing up, as my "gift" days were almost perfectly balanced, LOL.
