Tom Brady is clearly the MVP of the league right now.

Sadly, the media/league would love nothing more than to give it to Cam Newton instead, for a bunch of reasons.

Tom Brady (12 games)
34 total TDs
6 INTs
3,957 total yards
102.8 QB Rating

Cam Newton (12 games)
32 total TDs
10 INTs
3272 total Yards
93.2 QB Rating

Carson Palmer is also in the running, though I think it will ultimately come down to Brady vs Newton.

What do you guys think it will take for Brady to win the MVP this year?

I think for him to have a chance, the Patriots need to get the #1 seed in the AFC and the Panthers have to drop at least one game.

Brady is having his typical unbelievable season. Right now, Cam Newton deserves the MVP award, which I would not have said a few weeks ago. Just trying to be somewhat objective: Newton has done everything imaginable at this point to win the award. Still possible for Tom to win it but unlikely.

Unfortunately, Tom wasn't ever gifted an MVP award (or multiple ones) like the Forehead, where he gets extra votes because the media wants him to win so badly.

Still, for legacy sake, does anyone really ever count up MVP awards when they compare great players? Tom has won multiple MVPs, which validates his individual dominance...I don't think whether the number is 2 or 3 really matters. I was hoping he'd win it this year, but another Lombardi would be 1000x more important for his legacy.

The media is trying every reason to give the award to Cam. Any typical year if it was Rodgers or Manning, there would be no discussion based on stats alone. Now people are talking about Cam has no one or the Panthers are undefeated so he deserves it. Blah! MVP is usually the best player in the league which has been Brady for the majority of the season.

newton can have mvp, regular season mvp has become a curse since the turn of the century when it comes to the SB.

Any reason you choose not to include rushing stats and team record?

Brady ain't getting that award, I doubt he ever was. Too much "But, but, Deflategate..." going on still. Let Cam win it.

It's about the rings. Always has been, always will be.

Naaaahhh...that just isn't true. Virtually every major writer had Brady as their mid season MVP; he is the leading pro bowl vote getter. Deflategste bias, IF it exists at all, which I'm skeptical about, isn't the reason. Let's face it: over the last five games or so he hasn't been his typical great self due to injuries and some bad decisions. Newton has been playing out of his mind.

What part of total yards and total TDs did you not understand?
Very clever......combining categories.....that's a first. Whatever it takes to prove an argument....right?
Guess for a RB to win an MVP he needs to rush for 5000 yards and score 45 TDs
But my mistake.....your thread.....your stat manipulation. Have at it

cam with another great game. let him win it.

eyes on the big prize.

This isn't my thread. I was just pointing out how the OP clearly had put total TD and total yards. Only a moron would completely miss how the OP framed that. Not anyone's fault but your own for your reading comprehension error.

If Carolina wins out, it's Cams.

If they end up 15-1 and pats 14-2, it should be Brady in a walk.

I don't mind at all cam winning, since it's indicative of team success that is so uncommon, and he is holding the offense together.

Cam Newton is the MVP IMO. Did anyone predict what carolina would do esp when benjamin went down? They are not 13-0 without him. And he has made plays. But I do agree, if this was between manning and cam they wouldve at least shared the award.

#1 Cam Newton
#2 Tom Brady

#3 ???? IDK.

I think if Cam takes it unless Carolina loses at least 2 games.

My apologies..............from behind you looked like Pessimistic Pete :)

With regards to PP's "total yards =passing yards + rushing yards ".....that's a statistic that DOES NOT exist....so forgive me for not grasping this ground breaking moment in history ....the birth of an irrelevant statistic. You seemed to accept it quite easily though...No?

And for the OP who values big sum totals.....

Drew Brees.......# of seasons leading NFL in passing yards........5
Drew Brees.......# of seasons leading NFL in passing TDs..........4
Drew Brees.......# of AP MVP awards..........................................0

Regarding Newton........the perfect record (so far) breaks all ties. And his rushing stats are truly impressive .... especially when compared to real RBs this year. Prior to today, Newton is #4 in rushing TDs (7), #5 in rushing 1st downs (41).......even though real RBs carry the ball 50-150% more times than Newton. The OP's attempt to equate a passing yard with a rushing yard using a manufactured statistic in order to elevate TB12's credentials......devious.
The non measurables....Brady is the stud with all his weapons and Phillip Rivers like with wounded receivers. With the exception of TE Olsen, Newton has been working with JAGs all season. The guy has had to carry the team on offense with his legs in certain games. That wins him bonus points.
And lets not discount momentum......polar opposites right now. One guy is crushing it, our guy is chucking some bad INTs

I agree with the OP....it's not even close......but I say Newton going away (so far)

PS....Russell Wilson's stats are starting to resemble Newton's minus the win total. Another running QB forced to carry his team.

When Brady scored 6 TDs rushing in 2012 and the team scored 26 TDs rushing to Aaron Rodgers' Packers team 7 TDs, a full 9 points less scored on average than the Patriots, no one cared.

I agree with the OP in the sense that now that Brady is piling up the stats, suddenly wins count for more than stats, but in the past it was the reverse.

If we're being fair, you can easily make the case for Newton as the best, but I think the thread is about a double standard.

If Brady throws 11-13 TD's with like 1-2 picks and another 1100-1300 yards and we go 4-0 down the stretch it would be hard not to give him the nod. Then again if Newton continues to do what he's done for the next 3 games I'd say it's a toss-up.

Last shared MVP was Manning/McNair 2003. I'd be alright with that. Newtons been outstanding. Gotta tip your cap.

Injuries are what is going to cost Brady winning the MVP
