I just like that we have some hope for the third down back--maybe White will surprise, but thinking about his production just sort of depresses me.

I agree.

All things considered hes done a pretty decent job as a 2nd/3rd stringer. Hes caught the ball, grabbed a couple TDs and done a good job of pass blocking.

I think we can all agree that he is a) not explosive and b) not elusive and never will be.

With everyone back at practice today, and with a reasonable hope that the team's two best skill players will be back come playoff time, there's a potential scenario of a damn healthy team come then. The only exceptions being Solder and Lewis. Solder we can definitely have a degree of comfort that the line will hold up fine. So Lewis not being there was the thing that was hard to get around...so just having the possibility of a spark back there is enough to lift the spirits.

Agree.

Umm.. Neither Gronkowski nor Edelman were at practice..

I think you discount the impact that the likes of Develin, T. Brown, and Wendell have on this team.. They aren't Lewis or Solder, but they aren't pieces of trash either..

Beyond that, I agree with you..

Yeah, I was going to add "that we could reasonably hope to have there" because you knew those two weren't coming back yet, but I got lazy. Now I'm writing more anyway.

Point taken on those guys, I guess I was referring to how the team was constituted this year, and they were all hurt before the season started. But they would all be helpful for sure.

I haven't seen Williams play at all, but I'm really looking forward to watching him. I have been disappointed in James White and although Bolden had a good game against Denver, I'm not sure if he can do that every week. Since Lewis has been out, there has been a significant drop off at this position and hopefully Williams can help!!!!

I kind of disagree. What White is capable of and what he delivers in any given game can vary wildly. The James white who ran and received two tackle busting touchdowns against the Bills? He would make a difference. He goes back to Casper Milktoast, afraid to hit the hole. Blount is less than inspired some games too.

When Corey Dillon got older, he lost a lot, including health of one ankle, but he never lost his intensity for one play, he wanted to hurt linebackers.

Main reason I chose the namesake for my avatar. Clayborn would just destroy the will to play, in receivers because he wouldn't give them one uncontested catch, even if there was a 30 point score difference.

Backup players are not consistent as starters .

Man!!!! I was looking forward to seeing Flowers play at some point. Maybe next year... At least they traded a Trey for a Trey, our quota of Trey's remains unchanged.
Is this sort of the Threepeat or Treypeat?

Why weren't they starters when they were backups?
Deep. I will throw you this. If everything evolved from amoebas, how does the world still have amoebas?

I doubt he'll be active on Sunday but hopefully next week against Houston

On one hand it sucks to see Flowers hit IR, but it's weirdly encouraging that they waited this long on him. That suggests to me that the Pats saw in him the ability to be a solid, real rotational player. To IR him now seems to be more a product of needing the roster spot on account of various other injuries than anything that has much to do with him. Long term, that's really the best you can hope for when a rookie gets IRed.

As for Williams, looks like they're trying to catch lightning in a bottle twice. His tape looks good, let's hope it translates. Can't hurt to take a shot.

Faulk, Woodhead, Vereen, Lewis.

I won't say they've all been lightning, but Patriot's seem to have a good eye for this type of player.

True, was referring specifically to Lewis in this case. Similar size, similar skill sets. Vereen was a 2nd round pick, so I don't really consider him comparable since that's a significant investment vs. picking up a guy pretty much off the street.

James White has "done a pretty decent job as a 2nd/3rd stringer?" Really? He has 13 rushes on the year for a total of 35 yards, or 2.7 YPC.

Basically, his production over 2 yrs as a NEP comes down to catching a pass in the flat and breaking a tackle in the Bills game. If they didn't even bother to use him in the game last week @DEN where the entire game plan was to try and beat the LBs in coverage, that may not be a good sign.

You have a much higher opinion of him than I do. Let's hope you're right and I'm wrong.
