Patriots open as 5-point favorites at Colts in early lines for NFL week 6

John Morgan

In the highly anticipated rematch of last January's AFC Championship game, the Patriots have opened as 5-point favorites at Indianapolis. The Colts have failed to live up to their off-season hype thus far, while the Patriots appear to gearing up for this game as a highlight of their 2015 Scorched Earth FU tour

Given that A) the Patriots have demolished the Colts three times running, and B) that the Colts are somewhere between a flaky pretender and a flawed also-ran while the Patriots are rolling, I'm slightly surprised that this isn't hovering near a touchdown - even given that it's @ Colts.

I'd bet a large pile of e-bucks on the Patriots to cover.

Back to back road games are historically hard to win. This one may be a tougher win than we think.

5 points does sound kind of low.

If it remains 5 points, or below 8, on Monday then I am going to put some money down. Normally I avoid betting on the Patriots because too often money + great bias = poor betting. However, the Colts have looked pretty bad, the Patriots' O is a runaway freight train and the deflategate motivation is there. Chances of covering a 1 TD spread under these conditions is markedly higher than normal IMHO...

At the beginning of the season, just before the games started, I checked the early lines for every week, and the Colts were two point favorites for this game. That is a seven point swing. It also means the Patriots are 8 points better on a neutral field than a team who was widely thought to be a SB contender. That's a big swing in just one month.

So you are supremely confident Pats will covered..

That seems oddly low. I wouldn't have been shocked to see it open in the 7.5-10.5 range even with it being in Indy.

That has to be a mistake. 5 touchdowns sounds more realistic. Rex said he felt the Pats were trying to embarrass his team. Well, that's nothing. The Patriots are going to be out for blood in this game. In their last 4 meetings the Patriots have won by the following margins 38, 22, 21, and 35 points. And I would argue the Pats are playing better and the Colts worse going into this game. Be afraid Colts, be very afraid. You have no one to blame but yourselves for starting framegate. No mercy.

Chuck Pagano's supreme confidence surely brings the spread closer by at least a FG

While it will be tempting, I have a strict rule about never giving more than a FG on the road--for any team.

Considering that this is still just a "futures" bet until the DAL game has been completed, the line may very well still open in the window that you are predicting. I'd be surprised to see anything below -7 under normal circumstances.

Depends on what the pats do this week, if they beat down Dallas then I bet Vegas ups the odds

What's the multiplier of that 5 point favorite? Because it seems awfully low, so either the fix is in or it seems to be an opportunity for gamblers (and I'm not a gambler)

If the Pats are looking forward to the Colts game as much as the media and some people here are, this week will be tougher than anyone expects.

Somebody! Quick! Go interview hardy again!

I don't normally bet on football, but when I do l, I swallow the points and take the patriots

"We aren't concerned about the Colts. We're concentrating on Dallas. They have quality players, including the best offensive line in the NFL. They have a really explosive football team. The Defense has a lot of variety up front. It's going to a real challenge to beat them on their home field."

It's very hard to win back to back road games. Pats haven't won back to back road games in a long time. I think the last time was 2012. I hope that streak ends this year.
