A bye week, even an early one, is a time of assessment. Where have we lost kewy players to injuries. What positions might be upgraded at a cost of a mid-level pick or two?

OFFENSE
I don't see any position of offense where we would trade a pick for an upgrade. We have a great offense. We expect to get LaFell, Stork and Wendell back. We might cut Hooman if we need a position. I just don't see where we would add someone.

DEFENSE
We could use a corner. That's not news. But other than a special teamer who might replace Dakota Watson (or Wilson), I don't see any additions at any position other than corner.

BOTTOM LINE
We added Ayers, Casillas and Branch to fill holes. We currently, don't have any holes. However, there always could be an upgrade. There are those at the bottom of the roster that are far from essential.

What's even more difficult is trying to determine what kind of trade compensation we'd get back, especially since he's already redone his contract this year in the spring.

I've seen a fair amount of comments in the past few weeks suggesting that we'd somehow get a 2nd round pick or a quality player in exchange for Mayo and his current salary. That isn't likely to happen in my opinion.

That's not meant to come off as a douche to anyone who believes otherwise, but I've just never understood all the hype over adding a major salary for an average to good player. I suppose it's due to the somewhat limited market of viable options at the position of CB.

Don't forget the 3 LB/DE contract situations with Jones, Collins, and Hightower, which would almost certainly mean losing at least one, if not two of them for the future by taking on Haden's pact.

Belichick loves to address team needs during the bye week via trade. Last season we incorporated Ayers, Branch, and Casillas around the bye.

I am thinking they will bring in a CB, I do not think it will be Joe Haden, but I do think it will be a solid NFL CB.

It damn well better be Joe Haden.
